The problem could be that the convertor is no longer doing its job of reducing the emmissions which you wouldn`t notice any performance problems with the drivability of the car.you should have a convertor efficency test done to the convertor to eliminate or prove the problem.it could also be an o2 problem that you have.it should be put on a scan tool to see what the readings are while the car is driven.this may help in finding the problem
