Cold Start - 2000 VW Golf 2.0

I just recently purchased this vehicle for my wife and it appeared that everything was solid on this vehicle. After starting the car in the morning for the first time I hear "chirping" from the engine area. Of course you don't get a chance to hear soemthing like that at the dealership....... It doesn't have a problem turning over and the noise doesn't start right away but is noticable after about 20 seconds. Once the car warms up it goes away. I noticed that the dipstick tube is broken also. I am going to replace that. Any thoughts would be appreciated in regards to the chirping. Thanks!

Do you think its a bad pulley or is the timing belt going out? It sounds like its coming from the passenger side of the car.

Most likely the noise is the accessory drive belt or the timing belt.

It may be the belt idler pulley or just one of the belts, hard to know unless I was there to hear it

Vw golf 2 litre 8 valve wont idle when cold

This is sounding like a "Cold start" sequence is not working. Check with an autoparts store for what Temperature sensors your vehicle has. Many have 2 sensors, one for the dash gauge and the other for the engine controls.

A good sensor is needed to activate the "Cold start" circuit. If the sensors are good, then your computer may need reprogramming.

How to change clutch on vw golf year 2000

If you're asking this question, I two assumptions 1) that it's your first time because clutch replacement procedure is generally the same as any make of vehicle. It requires allen and 12pt bits (spline drive) so you can remove the starter, bell housing, CV joints and specially a 30mm x 6pt x 1/2 deep socket. A 1/2" drive torque wrench is needed as well to torque everything down to spec. If this doesn't deter you from doing it yourself then a public library usually has Clymers or Chilton service manuals for most vehicles available for reference. So my other assumption is you don't have a manual and need free information. Good luck and always let Safety be a priority.

Mk1 vw golf problem starting when cold ?

The first thing you may want to do is to replace your coolant temperature sensor. This is arguably the most important sensor on the vehicle, since it tells the vehicle's computer how hot or cold the engine is. What's most likely happening, is the sensor is sending an incorrect reading of temperature, making the computer think it's warmer than it really is, causing the car to attempt to start too lean.

The sensor is generally under $20 and is easy to purchase and install. It's usually located near the thermostat housing with 2 wires going to it.

I hope this helps and let me know if you need any further assistance! :)

I have a vw golf gti. P reg 1996. recently it has

Hi Frank
If as you say....Nothing is happening at all when you turn the key, you appear to have one of two problems. A faulty starter motor--or--- A faulty ignition switch. If you can tap the starter motor while another person keeps the key turned to the start position, and the engine now starts you now know it is a starter problem. When doing this PLEASE MAKE SURE THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF GEAR.
If it should start up, or even engage the starter motor while IN GEAR, serious injuries could happen, and I do not mean to your car.
Good luck

Upon starting VW Golf 2000, car screeches, goes away soon after start. Dealer says I need catalytic converter. Is this sound from catalytic oonverter? Thanks.

OMG!!! the dealer is trying to rip u off big time!!!!!!!! i would seriously cuss out the service manager at the dealer ship. Sounds like u have a belt loose or its rubbing somewhere. thats the reason 95% of any vehicle would screech on start up then soon go away.. get the belts checked BUT NOT BY THAT DEALER!!!!

'96 VW Golf GL with 2.0 motor. Cold start knock

It sounds like the hydraulic lifters are bleeding down after sitting for a while... there are ball checks which are supposed to prevent this... Try using a good engine flush (a product that frees sticky lifters) and replace the oil with a good synthetic... Hope this helps...;-)
