1990 toyota corolla bad starter?! The ignition swith is fine, but when i got my tires changed the guy said it was probably the cable from the starter that needs to be repaired. Took to auto zone and had it tested, starter came up fine on computer. When i turn over the key, car wont start. Sometimes it does, but usually i have to keep turning it over and over and over and after anywhere from 5-35 times it finally starts! Know specifically what it is?! Help me please!

Is it fuel injected or an older technology car ie carburetor type fuel ?
once I had an older car that had a seal leak in carb and would do this as the fuel would evaporate over night !
had to change the carby over with a reco one.

TYRE SIZE

The most helpful authority for optional tire sizes with experience is probably "The Tire Rack"...online at "TireRack.com. These guys and gals are Pros at "Performance or Optional" tires. Remember after fitting your Corolla with any new tires...you need to include a four wheel alignment to insure the best performance, and mileage. Also be sure to confirm the recomended tire pressure.

I have a 1990 mitsubishi galant I only used it during weekends. Everytime I try starting my car I have to turn my key to ignition a couple of times before it start. Sometimes I hear a crank sometimes no...

Locate your starter under the intake manifold and gently tap on it with a hammer, tire iron, etc. If the car starter is working more regularly now, you have worn starter brushes. After the tap fix on the starter you typically only expect a few more starts before the starter stops working altogether. A brush set will run any wear from $20 to $50. A rebuilt starter will probably cost about $100. If bad brushes is a good diagnoses, then you should consider buying the rebuilt assembly in hopes that it will never be an issue for you again.

Where exactly is the starter located on a 90 toyota corolla with auto trans, can not locate it?

It resides at the top of ur transmission, if u can't see it, just follow ur main positive( + ) battery cable and it will be going to that missing STARTER!

Hope u could see it!

Now what? Changed alternator but car still won't start.

a dropped/disconected starter solenoid cable is a good candidate, a heavy cable runs from the battery to the starter, a lighter cable runs from the ignition to the starter solenoid, the ignition key throws the solenoid which engages the starter pinion gear in the flywheel, and connects the cable to spin the starter motor. even loose may not be producing enoug current to fully engage the starter.
there is a fusible link in the battery cable that is a good candidate.
if the battery were disconnected during alternator changeover, look for loose cables at the battery posts, and corrosion on the posts.
if the battery was not disconnected look for collapsed positive plates on one or more cells of the battery..
