So I drive a 1999 chevy Cavalier and ive been having many problems with it. It blows black smoke sometimes from the exhust, on the hot and cold gauage the needle works its way to the hot end all the time, it smells like my car is on fire when driving, has a high idel sometimes, wont start up the best.. when started it shakes like a race car, and today baking it into the parking lot it just shut off! it was only driven for about 25min at minium... and when i tried to restart it, it would not start up and the engine was smoking and the exhust stunk. What can i do? how do i fix it? and whats wrong with it?

Hi,
It sounds like you have alot of problems which may only be a couple.
Have the coolant thermistor checked, it sounds like this is not switching off and causing the engine to over fuel, making it run rough and blow black smoke out the exhaust.
Have the engine thermostat checked it maybe faulty causing the engine to over heat., have these done and see how you cars goes then.

My 2005 Chevy cavalier air conditioner blows hot at idle but blows cold while driving

Have to have it leak checked, you lost
refrigerant, & no YOU can't add only to
polute the atmosphere

Recover all refrigerant & make repairs

Then pull a vacuum & recharge

Won't be cheap

Could go to $1,000

My 2001 chevy cavalier was serviced last year for over heating and the a/c unit not blowing cool air. It has a new radiator but the fan has stopped turning and the a/c blows hot only. Ive tried re-charging...

might just be a bad engine coolant temp sensor , it tells car computer engine temperature and computer controls fans , as for recharging a/c , did you pull system under vacuum ? to check for leaks ? vacuum also helps remove air to get a better charge because air expands

A/C blows hot on 1999 Chevy Cavalier

That could be the case. The other problem could be that you are losing freon for some reason. Find someone who can check the freon level for you to make sure that it is not leaking. The valve to fill the freon can get bent which allows for the gas to escape and then you run into this problem.

1999 Chevy Cavalier A/C blows hot air

More likely the recharge blew a o-ring and you have a leak. When your Cavalier was blowing hot air and a recharge fixed it that means it was low on freon which lets o-rings dry out, go back to the shop and have them leak test it. They use a pressurized dye to find the problem. If it's blowing it's not the cooling fan relay, they may have meant compressor relay but I'd have a leak test done first it's not expensive and easier that chasing unknown possibilities.

94 chevy 1500 will start for about 30 mins. and then just stop

Does it blow black smoke when it's hot? if so, Replace the cold start sensor. If not check to make sure your cats aren't plugged, (they will get red hot). If they are plugged the engine will loose power and stall.

Cavalier blowing out black smoke car idles fairly well considerin

Black smoke is usually unburned fuel. P0171 reads bank 1 system too lean. There isn't one answer. You need to dig further and inspect your cars fuel system, from the pump to the injectors. Because of the mileage you may want to start off with a compression test just to see where you stand with the motor. write back if you have any other questions.
