1999 Dodge Intrepid

Engine light blinks when coasting, sometimes cruising and gives a random cylinders misfire code. 2.7 engine just changed. Did it on the previous engine also.

Hi well the good news is its proberly not the engine random misfires are the hardest to find but it least chaging the engine has narrowed the search down to the fuel system or the ignition so start with the basics the ignition system it is a petrol i presume [you can get some to check on a test machine the plugs leads rotor gaps some coils] but this costs money i would suggest if the engines not had the plugs and leads changed your money would be better spent there the engine misfire code works on picking up the changes in the engines detenation and if any of your engines sensors were faulty the these codes would also show up no other codes recorded good news yates210456

My 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 with the 5.7 Hemi engine threw me for a loop yesterday. Stay with me on this as it gets weird. First the engine shut down as did the tach.

You probably should take it to a qualified repair shop before you replace part's that you have no clue how to diagnose . Replacing a PCM/ECM would need programming , dealer only .

Engine light keeps comeing on mecanic change o2 senser worked for half hour came back on cods keep saying its miss fireing have had this problem for a month know

Start Small work to Big = Saved Money!
The Code(s) should be telling the specific cylinder(s) that are misfiring. Do you know waht the code is?
Target those cylinders 1st before testing the unaffected cylinders.
The following should isolate the problem(s).
1. Spark plugs - take out-reconnect back to wires and test spark plugs for getting sparks. If none: Don't replace them yet. GO TO 2. If the spark plugs are worn, dirty them replace them.
2. Remove spark plugs form end of ignition wires and test for spark from the wire. If none: Don't replace them yet. GO TO 3.
3. Remove the wires from the coil connection and test the coil for spark for each cylinder. If none: Don't replace it yet.
4. Test each spark plug and wires this way.
5. Coil Packs normally provide fire for 2-cylinders at the same time. The two are paired across from one another.
6. Test the coil for fire, amount of fire and if there is both cyclinders firing.
Misfire and the O2 Sensor got replaced??
Good Luck and get back with me if you need additional help or if this solved the problem.

If the engine is not missing now or running rough,The code may be an old one stored in the computer,
The code for Evap usually comes from someone getting gas and not tightening the fuel cap so it clicks at least four times.

1998 Intrepid random misfire

I have a 98 dodge intrepid with a 2.7. My car would run fine at times and then all of a sudden start to miss badly and the valves would rattle. The mechanic changed the cam shaft sensor and now it runs very well.
