Ok if the pump IS in fact operating it is possible that the pick-up has come off the pump or there is not enough fuel in the tank,
you do know that the fuel filter MUST BE CHANGED EVERY EVERY EVERY 15,000 miles forget changing the engine oil the fuel filtr is so much more important you can go 2-3 years without changing the engine oil just make sure its always full check it everytime you buy gas.
Well you need to do a fuel pressure test to confirm IF the fuel is the problem and you are not just assuming this. Too many times people assume fuel is their problem when in fact its the ignition system. Do a fuel pressure test it must be no less than specs and LISTED SPECS are the BARE MININUM THAT IT TAKES TO MAKE THE CAR RUN!email me with the findings at [email protected]

Where is the emergency fuel shut off switch located on a 1993 chevy suburban?

There is no emergency fuel shut off switch on your vehicle , ford vehicles have one , called inertia fuel shut off .
If they replaced the fuel pump an your still having the same problem i would check fuel pump relay and the electrical circuit for the fuel pump . Voltage drop testing the electrical circuit will show problems most people would attribut to a bad fuel pump , but it's not the pump.
Testing Electric Fuel Pump Problems with Voltage Drop Test
Fuel pump electrical circuit diagnosis no fuel pressure testing GM

I would take it back an tell them to fix it correctly . or demand your money back .

Cannot determine from the description of the problem if rewiring power to pump resolved the loss of the electrical power or not. Now when it dies, is there still a loss of electrical power? If there is still a loss of electrical power, ensure that the new wiring is connected to the 'Engine Switched' side of the power system. In other words, only when the engine is turned on, power is applied to the fuel pump. If power is good, mostly likely there is a clog in the fuel system (lines) between the pump and the fuel injectors. It doesn't necessarily mean trash was sucked out of tank, today's ethanol gas can trash a fuel system from the inside out. Being a 1990...vehicles back then were less compatible with ethanol. If pump has power and running, fuel lines may need a good flush (multiple flushes maybe to get it all). When it quits, a simple pressure test at the injectors may help determine if fuel is getting to engine. Keep it simple...walk the dog. Make sure you've got good pressure at pump, follow fuel line hand over hand to the next connection, test pressure again, keep going until you find loss of pressure. Good luck...these type of problems are not fun to troubleshoot, not difficult either, just time consuming.

Electrical problem for the fuel no power

A lot of newer vehicles have a fuel pump cutout switch on the engine. If the engine shuts down for any abnormal reason, it loses oil pressure and one of the things that happens is the fuel pump is cutoff. This is a safety item in case of an accident which shuts off the engine. Check for the oil pressure cutout switch on the engine, which is usually different from the oil pressure gauge or light switch. Can't say exactly where it is, sometimes on the upper rear part of the engine behind intake manifold or on lower side of engine right into the block. The fuel pump run circuit is different from the fuel gauge circuit although they usually run in the same wiring harness if the fuel pump is in the tank. If the pump is not in the tank then the fuel level sender in the tank is probably defective and should be replaced.

Car will turn over but won't start. Through the

No noise from fuel pump when you turn over the car .First thing get voltage at fuel pump relay checked, is there 12 volt to the relay. If no, then problem is again the relay.--------- To reconfirm the problem, try other test, that is remove the relay and by pass the relay terminals with a jumper wire .Then with 12 volt external battery give power to fuel pump connector and see, if the fuel pump starts, then its clear that fuel pump relay is faulty.----------- Also other problem can be fuel pump inertia switch. If the inertia switch is faulty then also fuel pump will not start.-------- The fuel pump relay on a 1995 Ford Explorer is in the power distribution
box, in the engine compartment, driver's side near the firewall.----------
The fuel pump inertia switch is in the right front passenger area
it is below the dash but above the carpet in the right hand corner.--------
Its a push button type inertia switch.
--------
Fuel Pump Activation
When ignition switch is turned to START position, PCM operates fuel pump relay to provide fuel for starting engine. PCM senses engine speed and shuts off fuel pump by opening ground circuit to fuel pump relay when engine stops or engine speed drops to less than 120 RPM. When ignition switch is in ON position, EEC power relay is energized (contacts closed). Power is provided to fuel pump relay and timer in PCM. Fuel pump receives power through fuel pump relay contacts.
Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) Switch
All models use an electrical interrupt switch in fuel system. During a collision or vehicle rollover, electrical contacts within inertia switch open, shutting off fuel supply to electric fuel pump. Fuel supply is interrupted even when engine is running.
A reset button is located on switch assembly. If electrical circuit trips, vehicle will not restart until switch is reset. Fuel system should be inspected before resetting switch.
IFS switch is located under instrument panel, near right side of transmission hump.
----------- If the fuel pump relay, the inertia switch and fuel pump all checked ok, and fuel pump is working with direct 12 volt source to fuel pump. Then problem relates to computer. The computer (power control module, PCM) is faulty and has to be replaced.--------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Fuel pump location car over heated when drive belt broke. car will not start i do not hear the fuel pump turning on?

CHECK FUEL PUMP FUSE AND RELAY FIRST.SCAN FOR ANY PCM FAULT CODES IF ALL IS GOOD.YOUR FUEL PUMP IS IN FUEL TANK.BESURE TO TURN OFF AIR SUSPENSION SWITCH LOCATED ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT.MUST BE TURNED OFF POSITION BEFORE RAISING THE VECHICLE.FAILURE TO DO SO WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO AIR SPRINGS.YOU NEED TO REPLACED DRIVE BELT FIRST YOU NEED DRIVE BELT TO TURN WATER PUMP.THAT WHY ENGINE OVERHEATED.NO POWER TO FUEL PUMP AND OTHER COMPONENTS BECAUSE DRIVE BELT ALSO DRIVES THE ALTERNATOR TO KEEP POWER SUPPLIED TO CAR BATTERY AND CAR ELECTRICAL SYSTEM.YOU NEED TO FIX BELT FIRST.OR NOTHING WORK.

2004 polo tdi battery goes flat then engine cuts out. any ideas?

From what you have described it appears that the alternator is faulty and is not providing power to the electrical system.
When you operate the vehicle the electrics will run off the battery until it is nearly drained and there is insufficient power remaining to run the electrics. The engine will then cut out as there is no power to run the fuel pump, fuel injection system, ignition system, engine management system etc. If the problem is traced to a faulty alternator, you will be very lucky.

You should be aware that these cars are prone to numerous electrical problems (some hard to diagnose)including issues that will cause the electrical system to go completely dead.

These are not reliable vehicles (despite the image that VW likes to hold out) and once they get a few years and miles up (and are out of warranty) they will give you numerous problems, many expensive to repair. This is the case with many German and other European built cars.

Don't hold on to this vehicle much longer and get yourself a good low mileage Japanese built car such as a Mazda 3 or Mazda 6. If you buy a used European built car, especially one that has clocked up 60000 miles or more, you are buying yourself a repair bill.

Fuel Pump Circuit Operation When the ignition is switched to the ON position, it turns the EEC Power Relay on. The EEC Power Relay provides power to the EEC-IV processor and the control side of the fuel pump relay. Power for the fuel pump is supplied through a fuse link or high current fuse attached to the starter solenoid (battery side). From the fuse link or high current fuse, current flow is through the fuel pump relay and Inertia Fuel Shutoff (IFS) switch to the fuel pump. The IFS switch is a safety device used to shut off the fuel pump in the event of a collision. If the IFS switch is "tripped," it must be reset by depressing the white or red button on the top of the switch. The fuel pump relay is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).
When the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, the fuel pump will operate. If the ignition switch is not turned to the START position, the PCM will shut the fuel pump off after approximately one second. The PCM will operate the fuel pump when the ignition is in the START position to provide fuel while cranking.
After the engine starts, the PCM will continue to operate the fuel pump unless the engine stops, engine speed drops below 120 rpm, or the IFS switch is "tripped."

System Diagnosis Note: Grounding the FP lead at the DLC will allow the pump to run continuously with the ignition switch on.

2005 ford ranger fuel pump relay gets hot and engine dies

Like Laurie Mack said. It is the inertia switch below the glove box. Here is some funny information. DON'T change the fuel pump first. Interesting fact: I bought the new inertia switch from Ford and the install instructions that came with it said to install the switch in the protected area to the right where the fuses are. It is like Ford knows it was a dumb place to put the inertia switch, but they won't let you know until after you buy a new one. I have read at least 20 other people on here that had the same problem I just had.
