2002 Chevrolet S-10 Logo

Tachometer bounces up and down in my 2002 Chevy S10 during fast acceleration. Truck has been in the shop for a week. Rear outer seals and bearings replaced, left rear axle replaced, serpinten belt replaced, water pump replaced, front driver side hub assembly replace and intake manifold replaced because of a coolant leak. Now under fast acceleration the tach bounces everywhere and causes the transmission to shift funny. Any ideas?

Mr. Clay, thanks for your response. I will check the fluid level today and see where it is at. Something that I thought of after my post is that I hear a rattling noise perhaps coming from the transmission during the quick acceleration in conjunction with the bouncing tach and odd transmission shifting. I saw a post on the Internet referring a sun gear. Do you suppose that could be an issue if the fluid level is ok? Also someone mentioned a part that is supposed to be clamped back in the intake manifold after the gasket is changed and if not done so could cause a tach problem as well. I know it's hard to tell from a message but any info or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time!

My guess would be the transmission bands are slipping. This would cause what you describe. First check the transmission fluid and make sure it is full. Check it according to the instructions in your owners manual. If you only had an issue with the tach I would suspect a loose ground wire, but considering the transmission is acting up you more than likely have a transition issue that is just being reflected in the tach.

It is really hard to tell exactly what is wrong. But the transmission issue makes me very suspect of an issue there. Your transmission problem is much more important and potentially expensive than the tach problem. You need to have this looked at by an expert before more additional damage is done. The tach problem is minor and can always be fixed after your transmission is looked at.

Tricks or special tools to replace rear outer seals on 2004 tracker zr2 4x4

  1. Jack up the vehicle: Use a floor jack to lift the rear of the vehicle off the ground.
  2. Remove the wheel: Remove the wheel and tire from the rear axle.
  3. Access the seals: Locate the rear outer seals on the axle and remove any retaining clips that hold them in place.
  4. Remove the old seals: Use a seal puller or a flat-blade screwdriver to carefully remove the old seals. Be careful not to damage the axle or surrounding components during this process.
  5. Clean the axle: Clean the surface of the axle where the new seals will be installed to ensure a proper seal.
  6. Install the new seals: Carefully place the new seals onto the axle and secure them in place with the retaining clips.
  7. Replace the wheel: Replace the wheel and tire and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
It may be helpful to have a service manual for your vehicle on hand, as well as specialized tools such as a seal puller or a bearing packer. In addition, a clean and well-lit workspace will help make the process easier.

How are the bearings of a 2002 jeep cherokee made? like, are they packed or do they run on rear end oil?

I don't know of any bearing in smaller truck that run in rear end grease. If you look at the plug for the oil level you will probably find that they don't really run it high enough to oil the axle bearings properly anyway. I never tore a Jeep down but Chevy Ford both have pressed on sealed bearings. Tear it down if it is running hot you need to do something anyway. That will be a good way to find out. Please rate my answer so I am rewarded points for it.

I have to replace my right rear wheel seal/bearing on my 2002 Chevy Tahoe and am curious about how much it is/should cost me.

Hello Richard, the bearing and seal kit will run you about $75, i recommend using a Timken bearing over the AC Delco. Two hours labor to install is the norm for most shops @ $85- $95 per hour. Dealer rates will be higher. Estimated repair cost $265.00.
I hope this helps.

2002 ford Ranger 3.0 v6 (auto) rear end noise when accelerating on curves.

Remove the drums and check your rear brakes. If okay, you may try testing a couple different tires in the rear. Belts separating and flat spots show worse at higher speeds.
It could be bearings if truck is used alot while loaded. Remember 1/4 ton is only 500lbs. High miles, hard driving, or if it was wrecked in rear could all cause these smptoms.
