1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Won't start.

Car was working fine. Woke up today and Jeep won't start. The car is cranking but won't turn over. I thought it was the fuel pump. So i changed the fuel pump regulator first. I hear the fuel pump kicking in. So i got some starting fluid. Didn't kick over! So now i think its electrical.. i tried to start it up so much that the battery died. So charged it all up and now have no idea what to do. I really don't want to bring it to someone. Any Hints..

You need to check/replace the crank position sensor. this is a VERY common issue. I now carry a spare. you can check threads for info. but I bet 99% that this is your problem.

Check fuel pressure, spark and injector pulse

  • Anonymous Mar 18, 2011

My 99 Jeep Cherokee died going down the highway and wouldn't start. I had recently had the IAC (intake air control) module replaced. I rented a diagnostic tool from Auto Zone and it gave me four possible causes. Dirty Throttle Body, Loss of Vacuum, Poor Electrical Connection to IAC or Faulty IAC. Checked the IAC module and it was not securely clicked into placed. One click to put it into place and it started right up. Hope this helps

My 1995 grand cherokee takes a lot to start. turns over fine, but won't fire. checked fuel rail, no pressure. after trying 15 times or so, it will start and run just fine. starts right back up unl

Your Jeep has what's known as the delayed start, no check engine light problem. The Jeep will not start until the check engine light comes on, on the dashboard. Next time it cranks but will not start, look at the dashboard to see if the check engine light is illuminated. If it's not lit up, then your Jeep does have that problem and your Jeep ecu is in need of repair or replacement. There are components inside the ecu that are going bad and will continue to get worse, eventually leading to a permanent no start condition. There are ecu repair services and replacement ecus on ebay.

Cranks, but won't start

Could be the crank sensor is bad but If the check engine light does NOT come on when cranking at the times when it won't start, then your ECU is in need of repair. The engine will only start after the check engine light comes on and the ecu is what controls that. It's likely going bad, causing the delayed start problem typical of early 90's jeeps. Repair or replacement services for your jeep ECU are available on ebay.

I replaced my distributor cap and pickup coil on my 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.2 and note it won't start as if its not getting enough fuel whereas before it would start fine. Any thoughts?

If only happened after fitting new parts, then must be electrical fault.
Make sure you connected the coil corectly, and that the cap is fitted right. Didn't leave out the rotor button?? Also make sure the coil is correct one for your vehicle.

94 Cherokee wpuld quit while going down the road, now it won't start at all.

If it is cranking over and has fuel going to the injectors, the crank sensor may be at fault.

1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Sport it just won't start. It cranks, that's it. It was running fine yesterday.

If it was running yesterday and only cranks this morning you need to determine which you are missing - spark or fuel. The spark is easy - pull a plug and let it spark to the frame. while cranking. If you have spark then you have to start checking the fuel system.
