I have a 1995 Chevy S10 4.6L 2WD Ext Cab truck. Just replaced the transmission and have bleed the system. I started the engine and I cannot shift into first gear without grinding the gears. Any suggestions on why this is happening? I can shift into 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th. Not Reverse...

You have a transmission problem. It's going out on you. I'd call around and compare prices to change your transmission.

sounds like your hydraulic clutch has failed. I would reccommend an internal inspection of your transmission by a mechanic.

take a measurement and if the inches between the yokes are the same. then yes it should. but more than likely not as the cab sizes are diffrent.

1995 chevy regular cab 4.3l v6 2wd wont go into overdrive

Sounds like it is stuck in second gear. Overdrive only drops rpm by a couple hundred. In third gears you should still be less than 3,000 rpm.

Second gear is a default gear when the transmission is in limp mode. Is the check engine light on? Does it shift if you manual shift through the gears with the gear selector?

I have a 97 chevy silverado c1500 ext cab 2wd automatic the truck stopped shifting. I had a tranny rebuild done and then park reverse and neutral worked but it wouldn't shift outta 1 st. Got new shift...

1st and 3rd gear only sounds like a broken sun shell he should feel bad... The only real issue on those 96 97 transmissions is the solenoid resistance values so swap ur solenoids with the one u want to put in and it will work fine if u do ur home work first.. U got to know why they wont work thats how u find cheats... But first and third sounds like a stripped or sheared shell...was reverse gone to

Was this tranmission you put in the exact same as the one you replaced? This is not a common issue and I have to lean towards the linkage either binding or out of adjustment, almost like your shifter is not moving far enough to get first and reverse but it has plenty of room to glide through the other gears. Do you have someone who can move the shifter while you get under the truck and watch the linkage to see if it is binding or not traveling far enough. And can you take the linkage off and manually move the transmission cam to go through the gears from under the truck? Please do not get under it while it is started or capable of starting. When it is gera does it operate smoothly and no jerking?

If you can see the slave cylinder actuate, then have someone push the clutch down and watch for movement. You should see the release lever move at least a half inch. Let me know if you get movement. I also would like to know if you had the flywheel machined and if you removed, replaced, or added any shims between the ****** and engine block.

One quick fix, that may or may not help....Under your shifting boot, turn the collar that holds in your shifter, it should release, and let you take the shifter up. There is a plastic ball on the end, see that it isn't worn, and look at the part that the plastic ball goes into. Too much wear here can cause a problem. These are available!
If not...synchro's are very difficult to replace in a standard transmission.
