Do you have a key fob? Unlock the car with that and you should be OK. My sons Elantra is the same way, you can only get in with the fob. I guess the car thinks it's being stolen otherwise. If you don't have a fob, I'm no help

you can buy a factory vw key on ebay and have the dealer program it to your alarm. i had to do it that way when my key broke. it is cheaper than a new one from the dealer. type 01 jetta factory key on ebay.

SOURCE: 2000 VW Passat won't start/car alarm goes off/stuck in anti-theft

My car, 2000VWPassat, is doing exactly the same thing as of Wednesday April 7, 2010. The dealer has been looking at it for 6 hours and they said they have absolutely no clue what is happening. They are elevating it to an "engineer".

The remote does not disarm the alarm and unlock the doors. Trunk also will not open.

I would say that the problem is the remote. change the batteries in the remote and see if it will work then. if it still will not disarm the car then it could be a problem with the security system itself.
new batteries can be bought at your local RadioShack*,auto parts store,or a auto security intallation shop.

Remote key malfunction

Unless you've wrecked the remote by physical damage or by immersing it, likely the remote battery is dead. I have a 2005 passat and the remote takes a single cr2032 3v battery.
Gently pry the remote in half on the "non-button" side carefully with a knife or fine screwdriver to separate the key from the buttons, then the part with the bottons on it again can be carefully pried in half to expose the battery. Be careful with it - everything is plastic and a new remote is expensive.

Passat 200, intermittently break/ABS/ASR/STOP lights come ON

Try carefully topping up the brake fluid, this can happen when the level falls as the pads wear down especially when cornering

Hello, had problems with the lectrics in my car for a while now. the reverse lights were once intermittent and now have just gone completely, and the same can be said for my fob, it locks and arms the...

The reverse lights not working is just a coincedence and probably just the reverse light switch (Cheap to change) The remote`s on the keys are quite a common fault to go . You can usually tell if the buttons feel hard and do not click .
