My 1995 ls400 is running hot after driving less than half a mile after it warms up, I replaced the thermostat after I noticed the temp would go up after I would idle in the drive through but the temp would go down after I would drive off, what should I look at next I also drain the radiator and filled it up.

Indicates a fan problem
if it has a viscous fan hub , replace it as it is not driving the fan hard enough to suck air through the radiator when the car is stationary
if it has electric fans then check coolant temp sensor, 2 fuses , relay and fan motors as they are not working

SOURCE: car doesn't warm up

It does sound like the thermostat. The sensor does not control the thermostat in any way, it only reads the temperature of the coolant. Your symptoms are classic of a thermostat that is stuck open or partially open. Take it back and tell them what is going on and have them show you that the thermostat is fine.

Check coolant level when cool. Make sure cooling fan at rad is working, and then I'd change thermostat.

2000 malibu runs hot if not warmed up

How do you know it gets hot? Are you going by the temperature gauge on the dash? Or have you checked under the hood and found out the engine really is running hot? ...Reason I ask is, something just doesn't sound right in your description. After just 5 minutes from starting and driving away, the engine would not yet be at normal operating temperature. That would explain the heater not yet warm. But the temp. gauge says hot?
If so, I would replace the temperature sending unit on the engine. the one for the dash gauge, and see if that was the problem-not reading the temp. accurately.
Couple of other things: Are you sure you got all the air out of the coolant system? Start the car with the radiator cap off and let it run until the engine is warmed up fully, then shut it off and install the cap. Does your reservoir tank stay about half full where it should be, between the full-hot and full-cold marks?
If your problem persists. I would have the coolant system pressure tested, and see if you could get a true temperature reading of the coolant when it seems to be running hot.
Good luck.

Temperature needle consistantly floats between warm and hot. Is this normal?

depending on what temp your thermostat is,sometimes some engines run warmer, make sure it doesn'r run hot,and keep flushed with new antifreeze every 12,000 miles.

My 1995 lexus ls400 is running hot what could this be

Make sure coolant level is good and no leaks. Check that belts are there and tight( when you push down on belts with finger it should only move about half to one inch). Also check temp. with hand held thermometer at ends of rad. hoses at the motor. Temp reading should concur with car gauge ( if not gauge maybe faulty) If all is good consider thermostat replacement ASAP

the thermostst is most likly stuck in the open position letting the coolant flow freely through the engine and keep recuirculating not giving it a chance to stay in the engine block to warm up. i would replace the thermostat

2003 chev impala 3.8 the temp gauge goes up 1/4 of the way..what shd the normal reading go to I wld think 1/2 way on the gauge? I just think the air shd be hotter when set on hi

During the winter time the engine may not produce enough heat to go half way. You can modify this by installing a hotter thermostat. But I would not go more that 20 degrees F though, or you could create issues for summer driving.

I have a 1995 ford windstar that seems to have a temp. problem. While driving the temp. gauge goes all the way to HOT. The van never overheats but the A/C will eventually start blowing warm air. I flushed...

oddly enough it sounds like a transmission problem, get a transmission shop to assess the problem, but first try replacing the thermostat. be sure to turn on the heater when adding antifreeze. I have had this problem with my windstar.
