Hi

You may need to remove the alternator, its just behind it. Engraved to the engine body. However generally this is stamped onto a plate and fixed to the engine block itself. You can also check the hood and around the fenders to find an engine name or number.

Please get back to me if you have further query.

Thanks

SOURCE: 1998 toyota corolla shakes before 2 rpm, check engine lights up

Not sure what is causing it, but it sounds like you're running on 3 cyllinders. Check plugs, wires, timing . timing belt may have jumped, bad injector, low fuel pressure.

SOURCE: I got a code P040

P0401 OBD-II Trouble Code
Insufficient EGR Flow

What does that mean?
EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation. It is part of the vehicle emmissions system, and is used to reduce combustion temperature and pressure to control Oxides of Nitrogen. There are generally three parts to the EGR system: the EGR valve, an actuator solenoid, and a differential pressure sensor (DPF). These things work together to deliver the correct amount of recirculation based on engine temperature, load, etc. The P0401 code means that OBD detected an insufficient amount of EGR.

Setting timing marks to get vehicle to start after engine overhaul

Timing marks setting Corolla 4A-FE.
Align the notch on the crankshaft pulley with the "0" mark on the timing belt lower cover.

With the crankshaft pulley being aligned with the 0 mark on the timing belt cover, the hole on the camshaft sprocket should exactly be in front of the notch of camshaft bracket.

Hope that works.

check your idle screw, also this could be caused by a vacuum leak, rough idle sensor or something of that sort, good luck
