I have a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, 4.0 engine automatic 4WD, my transmission began slipping and not wanting to shift into drive or overdrive. I added a bottle of Lucas Transmission Fix and it began to get slowly better. Then suddenly I began hearing a rubbing sound and lost overdrive & reverse. Anything I can do to try to get a little more life out of it?

Drop the pan and change the filter and gasket, that might buy you some time if it is not too far gone.
i don't know how many quarts of transmission fluid are required for this task but the part store should have it in their computer

Thanks! I didn't want to try that before asking someone who knows more than me if it was worth a try. Do you know anything about adjusting the throttle pressure or TV pressure for the ******? I saw something about this online, but the direction talked about a carberator and mine is fuel ingencted.

Another question: How hard is it to use a transmisson rebuild kit? I found one for not much more than the cost of filter & gasket.

unless you know what you are doing i wouldn't attempt rebuilding a transmission, what are you trying to adjust the throttle pressure for? it came through all * lol

I have a 4.0 Litre Jeep Grand Cherokee Automatic. On local runs she drives great. However, when we take her on long runs (over 50 miles) the OD (overdrive) light comes on, she down shifts a couple of...

Sounds like your transmission or lockup converter is slipping. The slipping causes heat and it is downshifting out of overdrive as a built-in protection strategy. Get the transmission looked at ASAP before you get stranded because it's stuck in a downward spiral right now. The problem could be caused by a stuck solenoid, which is a relatively cheap fix, but the more you drive it like this, the more you're working toward a full, expensive rebuild.

1996 jeep grand cherokee transmission slips in 2nd and drive

Drain fluid into a clean plastic bowl, check for brass cuttings or metal shavings in sunlight. If present get complete trans overhaul.

I own a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, 4WD automatic 4.0. I have been having issues with the transmission. It seems the gears are slipping at times. Last week after about 200 miles on a trip, I was...

no.
but slips , is big deal.
check fuses
check levels
full flush it.
scan it yet, no, but if the TCM is in limphome mode
it will not shift right, so why do you skip scanning it.
what it the TCM tells you a speed sensors is borked.
why work blind.?scan it.first.
does it slip in 1st gear?

at 70mph that is called transmission flare, never a good sign that.

Replaced transmission seal then on 2 different occasions going down highway at bout 65 to 70 miles hour transmission kept shifting btween overdrive n drive come to a stop n take off didnt do it again...

Computer controlled transmissions can get confused at times, from my personal experience. If the problem doesn't happen again, I would ignore it. If it happens all the time, it's most likely the transmission computer. Other things could be the shift linkage, engine vacuum leak, speed sensor, etc... Hope this helps.

My 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee transmission slips in overdrive

sounds like a possible shift solenoid. If it's due for a fluid change, do that and add a container of lucas trans conditioner. Likely you have a drain plug on the pan so if the fluid was recently serviced, just drain a quart out and replace with the additive, then top off.
If the condition does not change within a week, likely you will need better diagnosis from a reputable trans shop.

MY 2005 JEEP CHEROKEE LAREDO JUST STOPED DRIVING

If engine sounds okay, (when you accelerate, it revs up, etc.) then could be a transmission problem. (assume this is an automatic?)

Check fluid level first, if okay, next suggestion would be to change fluid & filter.

When you select a gear, do you get anything, any slight jolt to the vehicle?

If nothing at all, also might check the transmission lever linkage.

Is this 4WD or 2WD? If 4WD, also need to check transfer case setting, make sure it is properly set.

Full time 4wd doesn't feel right on my 1995 grand cherokee laredo

normaly you wouldn't drive all the time in 4 wheel drive in less it is mad that way but the reason it jearks when turning sharp is because the front axle is tring to grip but the tire just bends and slips commen problem
