Usually, it's fuel vapor from an emissions hose you are smelling.If there are no visible signs of a fuel leak---damp or wet at the injectors, connections, fuel filter, then I would suggest a smoke check to find the emissions leak

You'll have to figure out if it is a fuel or ignition problem.
Is the check engine light on ? Have you checked for trouble codes ?
It could be a relay, the ignition module, coil, fuel pump, or a list of other things

FUEL FILTER LOCATED NEXT TO FUEL TANK YOU NEED TO REMOVE THE EVAP CANISTER IT WILL BE IN THE WAY.ONCE YOU REMOVE EVAP CANISTER THEN YOU CAN REMOVE FUEL FILTER.

sound like stopped up fuel filter and fuel injectors need cleaning.also check fuel pressure should be 41 - 47 psi. could have weak fuel pump.

There is a fuel filter located in the hood close to the driver side and another in the fuel tank attached to the fuel pump.

your car has an unusual ignition set up, it's all located in the top cover,no plug wires, just plug boots. unless you are having a missfire or other drivability problems,just repace the spark plugs, fuel filter and air filter

it could possible be your fuel pump. If your fuel filter is going bad that want stop it from starting. I have a 2002 alero. I done have both fuel pump and fuel filter go bad. so i have a little experience with them.

Under car. Follow the fuel lines coming out of the fuel tank in the back. It's quite clear.

It should be up around the rear wheel somewhere. Follow the lines from where you put the gas in; they come together and the fuel filter should be right around there. Just replaced one. be careful, especially if the lines are rusty...
