Hi, if the wire is connected by a nut on the back of the alternator it can go either to the battery or to the starter solenoid.

    The back has two cables connected with bolt. it also has 3 prong and 4 wires connector there is only one small wire that is connected but it has three wires (red,gray, and i believe it light brown or orange. The red wire is thicker than the gray and ltd brown or orange one these three wires had been cut. Where do they connect too.

    OK, sorry. Now I realize you meant heated windshield. I do not have the diagram for that, but the manual says the 3 extra terminals go to the windshield. Is the alternator charging OK?

    If there are 2 wires on the big nut, one goes to the battery and one to the starter solenoid or the relay box. There must also be a big cable from the battery to the starter solenoid.

    I remove the plug to the alternator it has a red wire and two brown wire and a gray wire gray they have been cut..where do they go

Check for B+ voltage at the back of the alternator ,the heavy gage wire . Then there is a connector with two wire's the red wire should have B+ voltage as well , the last wire (BRN) should have B+ voltage with the key in the run position only . Not chaging probably . Maybe you blew a fuse or fusible link .

Sorry to hear this.. I hate when people butcher a NICE vehicle.. I would take it to a local alternator/starter/battery specialty shop.. they will know right away what wire goes where!!

On some of the earlier fords. If the bulb is blown in the instrument panel. It will not complete the circuit to charge. Turn your key on with the engine off to see if the red light comes on that shows the battery.

Main alternator fuse for my '92 Toyota Paseo constantly blows out when I reconnect my red battery connection to red battery post. Why?

carefully disconnect the alternator completely, now reconnect the battery, now one by one reconnect the alternator carefully first the connector check is fuse is blown, now the big wire that charges the battery if the fuse blown when the alternator was disconnected, the problem is in the wires, an accident, a mice, a recent engine job.

Trying to change the altenator on the car it won't stay idled up when i come to a complete stop and the battery keeps going dead

  1. Remove the power steering pump and cruise control actuator.
NOTE: Do not disconnect the actuator cable.
  1. Disconnect the alternator connector from the alternator.

  2. Loosen the adjusting bolt, then remove the through bolt nut.
  3. Remove the alternator belt from the alternator pulley.

  2. Remove the mounting bolt, then remove the alternator.

check the alternator fuse that can be a fuse link by the battery pole,check alternator voltage on the alternator red wire or connector,it should the same as on the battery ,check ground wires for loose intermitent contact

Dead Battery After 2 days

Check things like glove box ,boot or centre console lights. Also while recharging battery with engine cold feel alternator for any heat. Does alternator charge?
