1999 Honda Civic Remote Keyless Entry System

How do I replace the RKEM (Remote Keyless Entry System) in my 1999 Honda Civic? My driver door lock won't work off the remote (I did try replacing the battery), and I can't think what else the problem might be. I know the remote is still good.
I know the RKEM is located behind the radio, but that's all I know.

security system light on. Remote entry does not work. I think maybe the security system has a internal battery for memory. I would like to know where this is.

How Do I Know If My Car Equipped With A Keyless Entry Remote System? I have a 1999 Ford Windstar. I bought several remotes but can't get my locks to engage. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello Cathy

It does indeed have keyless entry. It needs reprogramming when you get a new remote. Also if you disconnect the battery. Usually a local car alarm fitting shop, or an auto-electrician will do it. Plus of course a Ford dealership.

The driver's door doesn't lock when using the remote key, but the passnenger and the rear door do The keyless entry was not locking or unlocking the doors on my 1999 4-door Honda Civic. I replaced the...

First thing is to try passenger door (that still has key lock for '03, doesn't it?) Or the rear hatch. I'll bet it won't work there, either, unless battery is disconnected. My guess is that the remote locking is staying at "lock" - which is why it works with battery disconnected.
I haven't heard of anything just like your problem, but there have been many who have to replace the RKEM (Remote Keyless Entry Module) - it's behind the radio. Usually the doors start to lock & unlock by themselves.

My 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid alarm system is no longer responding to the remote control after changing the battery in the remote control. Any ideas on what might be the problem.

Try locking and unlocking the doors with the key to see if it will reset the security system.
It is possible a relay could cause this...there are many relays and computers in this hybrid system

Keyless entry on honda civic 2006 not working

The keyless entry is designed to work with the doors closed (closed - not locked). If the door ajar sensor thinks the door is open the keyless entry is disabled. When you manually lock the door it might tighten the door just enough to activate the keyless entry. I would try slamming all the doors closed and then see if the keyless entry works. If it still wont work have the wiring checked on the front door lock.
