I have a 2000 ford explorer xlt and the drivers side door lock switch will lock the doors but will not unlock them. The passenger side works so I know the lock is working and I changed the switch and I still have the same issue.

For this type of problem I recommend YouTube. Always a wealth of information on rear gates door locks etc.
Google > YouTube 2000 Ford Explorer door locks
On your vehicle, if you are using the unlock button and driver door is unlocking, but pass door is staying locked, you actually have a bad actuator int he door.
May be switch but could also be bound up linkage &/or door lock actuator. Pull interior door panel & lube up all rods, linkage & actuator with a good penetrating oil. Then watch linkage & actuator as you lock & unlock door.
replace switch. if problem on all doors replace master on driver side door. switch has two modes: lock & unlock. Unlock is working, lock is not working, means power is good, individual switches are good, master switch is bad. Replace from used car fine.
Unfortunately, This is a very common problem with Ford Explorers! Ford replaces the locks when it encounters this issue. I managed to unseize my passanger door and tailgate lock, but the drivers door lock is broken beyond repair. You can purchase new remotes for your explorer and program them very easily. Just google ford key fobs...
I do have a book on the 1996 but no on me but I have had a problem with it the same, Get in and sit in the drivers set and push lock from the in side and then do the same but this time unlock it and then get out and try to use the remote. if no then try to do the same thing but in the passenger side. lock and then unlock. no then call the ford dealer shop and they have a alarm department that will help you and I know because I had then do a job on one of my other cars and I was charged $20.00 he did it on a side job.
