remove the tire and wheel. remove the axle nut from center of hub. remove caliper. remove lower ball joint connection to spindle. pull spindle out and swing away from the axle. remove axle from transaxle

The suspension on Ford Contours (all years) is what is called a "strut" suspension, on both the front and rear, and DOES NOT USE LEAF SPRINGS! Instead, the shock absorber is built into a "strut" that is the main vertical suspension component, and has a coil spring around it. If someone has told you your Contour has a "bent leaf spring", they do not know what they are talking about, or they are trying to scam you! Take your car to a qualified (and hopefully honest!) shop to get it checked out.

this thing is not standard for any vehicle. any kind of uneven gives problem. to avoid anything to your vehicle,especially that brake, need to repair or replace.
think if you loose your brake.

Your vehicle is "dogtracking", your best bet would be to take it in for
a 4 wheel alignment. Most legitimate places will give an estimate in writing.
This could even be from previous accident repairs if this vehicle was
purchased used.

that car should be front wheel drive and will not have a rear axel but will have an arm of a frame on the back you probably need to take the car to a tire store you trust and see if they bent something if not then you will probably need to get a 4 wheel alignment to true the back end and prevent that uneven wear.

Recommend a 1996 Ford Contour Chilton's repair book. Available a most auto parts stores. It will give you step by step directions for changing your timing belt if you need it and a lot more. about $19-$25.

If you broke 3 studs when you hit the curb then you can be sure that at the very least you have bent the rim, which will have to be replaced. At the worst you have bent an axle which will have to be replaced. You may have bent the rear end housing as well. This needs to go to a repair shop and be checked over to determine the extent of the problems. Don't put this off, it's very troubling that the studs broke again. Hope this helps.

tragik nc: In looking this car up in both the 4 and 6 cyl configurations, Ford said that the ignition control module is no longer a separate component. It is actually integrated into the PCM (power control module)
This is located in the right rear corner of the engine compartment behind the power steering reservoir.
