It could be just a worn out seal or a worn out/deformed cooler. In the end the only way to know what needs to be replaced is to dismantle it and check the status of the cooler. If the cooler is OK then just put a new gasket.
Yes, if you mix coolants they will react and the colour will change - this is why if you need to top it off you either use the exact same one or replace it whole. It turns a deep brown when the coolant is really dirty - it's way past its 2 year replacement time. If oil would get in it it would turn milky and it would leave an oily film if poured on a piece of carton - you can try that yourself.

Depends on the cost, oil seal if you can replace it ,it will sort your problem .but you have a158000miles on cooler already .if cooler is not too expensive i would change it completely

Ok...I just checked my coolant and it's brown. I read my manual and it says that the coolant will turn brown if mixed with the wrong type of coolant. When my coolant light initially came on I puchased universal coolant and poured some in. Could I possibly just need to have my coolant system flushed? If oil were in my coolant, would it be black vs. a thick light brown? Is the dealership trying to work me?
