My 2002 Volvo V40 radio went into the "off" display...did the reboot procedure and got back to the enter code mode. I got the code from our local dealer after supplying the VIN. Tried it three times and went to "off". Took the car to the dealer and they determained the radio had been replace by a previous owner. They searched the data base after looking up the radio serial number and came up with a new code. Tried that number 3 times getting "error" each time till it defaulted to "off". Called the dealer again and they said I need to buy a new radio....something like $1,200. Can you help?

If the radio code is not getting accepted then radio needs to be replaced. But instead of spending $1200, for radio, you can try getting after market radio for your Volvo and that will save a lot.-------
In using after market radio, you need to get the original factory radio connector bypassed,. that will only let the after market radio to work. At best buy they have all types of radios as well as connectors and wiring's.---------Going to bestbuy will help, they have experience, information, good prices, and any connectors that may be needed to bypass factory stereo.---------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Need radio code for Volvo v40, 1996 model

Did the V40 exist all the way back in 1996? Either way, they are usually tied to the VIN, so if the radio is original to the car, you can go to the local Volvo dealership and have them get the code by typing in your VIN into their computers.

Good luck!

Radio reads off and wont work

The anti-theft program has kicked in (usually activated by the wrong code being put in 2 times). Turn the ignition key to position 1, and turn the radio on. After 1 or 2 hours, the word code will be displayed. At this time, if you put in the correct code, the radio should work.

Radio display reads off for 2002 s40 volvo/cd player wont work

Hello there. I have a Volvo V70 that I bought recently and it had the same problem. I left the ignition switched on for about two hours and after that time the reading had changed from OFF to Code. I then entered the code and Hey Presto It worked. When I purchased the car it too had no code. I went to a Volvo Dealership, with proof of ownership of the vehicle i.e. Log Book and proof of ID , I used my Passport, and they gave me the radio code. The only dowside was I had to pay them £10 for this code but I feel it was worth it. I suggest you try this too. Good Luck.
