Go to a dealer and ask the parts guy to sell you two door switches for your car. this screws or snaps into the door jamb. when you have the new one in your hand you will see how to take the old one out. most likely it is the driver's door as it gets the most use. not a parts store item, have to go to a dealer.

once you know how to remove them, if it turns out it was not the driver door just go around the car removing and disconnecting them one at a time until you disconnect the one that makes the light go out. then put your other new switch in that door. you may just want to replace all of them at once.

Why won't the door light turn off when all doors are closed in my Subaru Impreza?

Hi Virginia Im AL the owner of Big As Auto Repair

Virginia, make sure the dimmer switch is not locked all the way on so that the inside lights stay on all the time. If that has repaired your problem awesome. BUT, if it did not fix your problem here's something you can try, but TAKE NOTE that if this doesn't work then it could be several other things. TRY THIS: Unhook the negative battery cable (Black Cable) for 20 seconds then hook it back up and tighten it firmly. This should reset all the computers and hopefully repair your problem. BUT, if this doesn't repair it then it could be a door switch stuck in the open position including the hood switch if in fact you have one. For last it could be the Body Computer if your vehicle is equipped. Hope this helps Virginia and check out my auto-repair website and the testimonials of satisfied customers: http://www.bigasautorepair.com/

Door ajar indicator remains on while driving and interior lights wont go off when auto is turned off even though doors are all shut. We will have dead battery and are out of town traveling. Help!

Not a professional, but what i would trouble shoot is when you close the door, it pushes against a little button. Sort of like a fridge (when you open it the light comes on, close it, it pushes against a little push in type button! It may be just from one door.....if you have a few friends around (4 people) then open each door and locate the button (may just be on the front doors). Look to where the doors are bolted on.....there should be something there!

Good Luck!

My door ajar light goes on immediately after I turn my ignition off and doesn't always go off when I push the door button which is normally pressed in when the door closes. The interior light goes out when...

Could be a faulty switch or a wiring problem. A dealer or authorized repair shop can answer the question about what is wrong and provide a cost estimate to repair it.

The door ajar light is always on but the doors are closed sometimes it shuts off i cant figure out what door it is

The door switches are built into the door latches on the Expedition. This makes the problem hard to isolate without taking the doors apart. Try spraying some WD40 into the door latches and opening and closing each door several times. Usually this will free up the sticking switch. My experience is that most of the time the drivers door switch is at fault.

The light on my dash saying the door is open wont

Hi
they have little pin switches on the inside of the door jar's check all these are pushing in and then back out when the door is open, they stick internally sometimes and you have to wd-40 them to free them up.

Also is the door light the same one for the boot? or is that another light? if it is a shared light for both then check the boot lid underside and the small panel on the bottom where your knees would be ensure these are all clean and have a good contact.

If no joy please get back to me.

Door light (open sign) wont go off

CHECK ALL THE LITTLE BUTTONS OR SWITCHES THAT THE DOOR HITS WHEN IT CLOSES THEY ARE USALY IN FRONT BY WHERE THE HINGES ARE OR NEAR THE BACK WHERE THE DOOR LATCHES YOU WILL NO CAUSE YOU CAN PUSH THEM IN WITH YOUR FINGER JUST LIKE A BUTTON PUSH ALL THEM IN ONE DOOR AT A TIME YOUR DOME LIGHT SHOULD GO OF WITH THE DOORS OPEN WHEN YOU PUSH THEM IN (ONE AT A TIME) AS EACH ONE YOU PUSH IN TURNS OFF THE DOME LIGHT OR THE BEEPING STOPS LIKE WHEN YOU LEAVE YOURE LIGHTS ON AND OPEN THE DOOR THIS SHOULD HELP YOU FIND THE FAULTY SWITCH THERE IS ONE FOR EACH DOOR

Interior Light sometimes will not shut off in Ford Ranger Pick up

If I am not mistaken, the plunger is located in the door with the latch. Most of the time you can just pull the door panel off and adjust the switch. After opening and closing the door, they get knocked out of adjustment. I sincerely hope that this helped you. Take care and best wishes.
