Question doesn't make sense. Explain more fully. What diagnostic tool do you have? I've never heard of a diagnostic socket. Do you mean the OBD connector? All models from 1996 on use a universal connector, called an OBD-II connector. On Board Diagnostics- since 1996, all vehicles sold in the USA are required to have the same connector. Fits any OBD scanner or code reader.
These vehicles are OBDI (OBD one) compliant not ODBII (OBD two). Therefore, the scanner required need to be specific for Chrysler vehicles. The diagnostic connector is located above the driverside inner-fender under the hood. To retrieve codes only, turn the ignition key ON-OFF-ON-OFF-ON and the check engine light will flash the codes.
You need to scan the computer for trouble codes. If the light was on, there must be codes set. On a '95 Buick, it would be OBD-1, On Board Diagnostics-first generation ('96 and later is all OBD-2). The diagnostic connectors are different for OBD1 and OBD2, but in '94 and '95, GM was on some models using a "hybrid" diagnostic link connector. You will just have to find the right diagnostic connector to get your codes. The guys at autozone or a national parts store who do engine scans for free may help you figure it out. If it is a straight forward OBD 1 connector, a cheap code reader could scan for trouble codes. For the OBD1, you can also use a jumper wire between terminals A & B of the diagnostic link connector. Turn key to on, and two digit codes will begin to flash on the check engine light. Code 12, for instance, would be a flash, pause, two short flashes, and longer pause before the next code appears. Code 12 by the way, just means that the computer is in diagnostic mode-after that any set codes will appear or be flashed. Code 55 may also be flashed-this code means the end of codes that are set.
There are three ways to reset a check engine light.
1. Disconnect the battery, wait approximately 30 minutes, reconnect the battery. This resets the cars
computer which also reset the check engine light. On newer OBD
(on-board diagnostic) compliant vehicles this usually does not work. See
step 2.
2. Reset using an OBD II reader. When you hook an OBD II code reader up to your vehicle, you can reset the computer using the code reader.
3. Fixing the problem. Generally the check engine light comes on for a
reason. Usually it is emission related (sensors, gas cap) or electrical
(faulty wiring). In this case the way to reset the check engine light is
to fix the problem
Hi, OBD2 didn't start until 1996, but you can extract your codes manually. You have to run a jumper in the data link connector under the hood. See procedure below. If you can tell me which engine you have, I may be able to provide the table of codes.
1982-95 MODELS
All models except the 1MZ-FE engine is equipped with OBD I till 1995.
Make sure the battery voltage is at least 11 volts.
Make sure the throttle valve is fully closed.
Place the gear shift lever in Neutral. Turn all accessories off.
The engine should be at normal operating temperature.
Using a jumper wire, connect terminals TE1 and E1 of the Data Link Connector 1 (DLC1).
Turn the ignition switch ON , but do not start the engine. Read the diagnostic code by the counting the number of flashes of the malfunction indicator lamp.
Codes will flash in numerical order. If no faults are stored, the lamp flashes continuously every 1 / 2 second. This is sometimes called the Normal or System Clear signal.
After the diagnosis check, turn the ignition OFF and remove the jumper wire.
Compare the codes found to the applicable diagnostic code chart. If necessary, refer to the individual component tests in this section. If the component tests are OK, test the wire harness and connectors for shorts, opens and poor connections.
The On Board Diagnostic (OBD) system will turn on the check engine light (CEL) when a problem or inconsistency is detected. When this problem is repaired or somehow clears up on its own, the OBD system will clear the code after a series or diagnostic run cycles. If you determine that the CEL is on erroneously, it can be cleared with most OBD code readers. Also, use the code reader to determine what is wrong and repair it. But do not clear the code just because you don't want to see the CEL on, it is there for a reason. Hopefully, this will help to FixYa problem!
