The power steering pump would have nothing to do with the engine overheating but the water pump certainly would, but before you go to the trouble of replacing the water pump you need to be certain that is the problem as there are other issues that can cause overheating, like the thermostat or a blocked radiator, the mechanic who said it was the power steering pump quiet obviously don't know too much about engines............hope this helps......cheers.

Actually, the 93 es300 uses a hydraulic fan setup powered by the power steering fluid using a seperate coolant temperature sensor. The power steering pump does power the fan.

Will a power steering pump off a 98 lexus es300 work for a 98 lexus ls400?

best ask a steering specialist shop as the engine identification shows a es300 as a 1mz-fe (3.0 ltr) and a ls400 as a 1uz-fe (4.0 ltr)
there may be mounting differences between the engines

What could cause overheating on Lexus ES300 only when in park or idol?

When the car is not moving, "air" is not cooling the car down. So it is over heating. Your fan only comes on for so long and then stops. An overheating car can be a small problem that leads into a huge problem. Find the leak asap. Your thermostat could be bad, cooling sensor, radiator, hose(s) or water pump. Are you refilling it with antifreeze often?

There should be a sticker under your hood somewhere that shows how it goes on. If not, just put it on the crankshaft, and then go flat sides to flat sides, ribs to ribs, and work your way around.
