Question about 1998 Volkswagen Beetle

1 Answer

I have a 98 VW Beetle which I replaced the AC compressor and drier about 1 1/2 years ago. Now the problem I'm having is that it just recently stop blowind cold air. But whats more unusual is that if i drive the car with the air on, even though its blowing warm air, the AC kicks on after 15 minutes and starts blow cold air. Does anyone have any idea what could be the problem?

    Hi Brad,

The last time they put freon in my system was when I had my compressor replaced. Do you think I'm in need of freon? It's been about a year and a half now.

may need to replace the pressure switch for the ac as well they will go defective a lot of times as well.cheap part go to auto zone or advace parts or any you choose and ask for a ac cycle switch and they will hook you up.

When i changed my alternator, my ac stopped blowing cold ac?

Changing the alternator in these cars is a work of art you need more arms than a budda ,what has happened is that in removing the front of the car to gain access either the gas was lost or a safety pressure sensor switch has been left with the wiring connector left loose so it will not work

My daughter is buying a 1999 VW Beetle and the AC is not working, the driver side window will not go down and the buttons that opens the trunk and fuel door will not work. Will these be really expensive to...

I have a friend with a 1999 Beetle. The Window was a pain, ended up taking it a shop. 285 at $90 per hour labor, saved an hour because I had taken apart the door.

AC not working at all? Likley the AC Controller (475) or the blower motor regulator (225).

Wiring is also bad in the one your looking at likely. And wiring jobs are a pain.

It will need a new timing belt at 90K for 600-800. DIY will run you 200.

I am fairly competent with car repair and can usually fix most things myself, but I trust others with wiring issues and computer issues.

Skip that car.

How to remove window crank and panel on 2001 vw beatle

Check with VW to see if they issued a recall on the window regulators. They replaced both of mine about 2 years ago based upon a service recall. I had a 98 VW Beetle.
