I had the same problem with my 2001 Blazer. Just remove the panel by the screws located on the side of the tailgate, the problem was a bad actuator which pulls the lever to open the glass hatch. Once you take off the panel, remove the metal shield on the tailgate and the actuator will be mounted on the back of it. There are several ways to open the hatch on blazers and jimmys. You can try to release by inserting a small screwdriver and pushing left using the entry hole in the rear hatch deck just below the plastic trim in the center. This works ok unless the latch is out of alignment. The quicker way to release the window lock is to pull the center of the plastic trim (where it rises) toward the inside of the car and break the plastic trim attachment. Remember first to remove the hatch handle.By pulling away from the window, you can then insert a finger between the two walls of the lock assembly and push down. The window will open immediately. Ignore the broken trim attachment as there is plenty of support for the top of the door trim piece. Unbolt the 9/32 panel screws and the two phillips head side screws and the panel will come off. Careful of the rods clipped to the panel. They come off easily as does the hatch door activator. Rather than have to buy an actuator because the blue piece of plastic broke, replacements are available at online auto supply stores. Remember to make sure that the lever of the actuator hits the window release mechanism squarly. A little bending with pliers will align these two pieces so they strike evenly.

I can not get the tailgate to open in 2003 chevy blazer 2dr? It gets power to it because i can hear it when i push the button?

Inside the rear tail gate hatch should be a small access panel. Remove the access panel so you can manually open the rear hatch by grabbing the small metal rod linkage. They put this access panel so if the door motor actuator goes bad you can still open the rear hatch. After you open the rear hatch manually by the linkage rod. Remove the entire inside hatch trim panel so you can see all the inner workings of it and self diagnos. It sound like the electric door motor actuator has gone bad. This is pretty common for any GM product. Hope this hopes.

Tail gate will not open

Not knowing the year, make or model this sounds like a bad actuator release motor, you will need to use the key to open the tailgate and then remove the panel to inside the gate, once inside you will need someone to hit gate button while you test for power and a good ground at the actuator , if there power and a good ground then replace the actuator, also makr sure the lingake is connected,

Can´t open the rear tail gate/door. Have tried the emergency opening option (holding down the 2 lock buttons in the car) but that didn´t work either. When pressing the rear door "handle" to open...

If you squeese the handle put your head near the badge you should hear one micro switch operating the window and a noise like well hard to explain but its a solenoid operating the rear latch after the window drops, you can get the inside panel off bit hard with door locked; at bottom of door panel is four philips screws take them out and then the panel pulls from the bottom up,cut round water shredder and you can operate latch manually to get it open then check to see if micro switch in handle is working its not a rear wiper fault or window fault as they work, the relay for the rear door latch and the rear window are behind the offside rear quarter panel 3 connectors for rear door electrics, the relays are up by the seat at top,its not normally a relay issue either rear door latch solenoid or micro switch in back handle but rule out the handle as window works.

Disconect battery and wait 5 min and try again it worked on mine.

Hope helps.

Rear window will not open or release , can hear electric release

you will need to check all the fuses first, then remove the pop window switch and check for power at switch, and power going through switch when button is pushed, this button is on the dash, if there power then you may have a bad release motor,if your blazer does'nt have a hatch release on the dash then you will have to remove the panel on rear door and test there .

Rear door lactch will not open but other doors do

I have the same issue on my 2002 Escape. I hear the cylinder motors engaging on the doors but not the liftgate so all I can assume is the wiring loom on the passenger side upper corner of the liftgate needs attention. That is where the wiring is for the door motor that releases the window and gate. I will post again after I solve this. 6/28/2009

'91 4runner rear window/lock

Probably a broken wire where they run into your tail gate, or a loose ground.

The keyed lock on my 98 passport on the tail gate has been punched in, I can't figure out even how to get the tail gate open, because the handle on the out side seems to be un atatched, I feel that if I...

I believe you have to open the rear window to open the tailgate??
Tailgate opens right to left [ passenger to driver ] side?
Tailgate handle will not work if window not open - feels like it is disconnected. The "button" releases the window only.
If you open the rear window and the tailgate still will not open. You need to remove the inside tailgate cover to get access to the handle and release switch. You can access the the window release the same way [ just a little harder to do]. You will probably end up breaking the vinyl panel to do this but so will the auto body shop and they will charge you $$$$$ to replace it.

Rear window and gate will not open.

This is only part of a solution or suggestion. I have the same problem and the car manual says to reach under the tail gate, inside under the carpet and there is an emergency release. I can't find it. It says you need a screw driver or sharp skinny object to do this. Good luck hope you find it. Hope you have your manual.
