Saab 2.2tid car loses all power when warm, rev counter goes to zero

Hi my 2.2tid 95 works fine until the temp gauge gets to about half way, then car loses all power, not like the common limp home mode, basicaly tick over power, and the rev counter goes to zero, if left for a couple of hours car starts and runs fine, then will repeat the above as soon as warm, any idea's I've a feeling it could be a Crankshaft position sensor, but cannot find it on the engine block??

Understand where you are coming from on this, but why would the rev counter go to zero with the engine still running, its go to be reklated to the crank? and the elecronics in it

Check fuel feed is ok and fuel pump pressure also check cold start injector could be running on this til warm.

The rev counter seems to have a pickup problem and may not be related. Just a thought try running the car with the fuel filler cap removed, this with tell you if you have a blockage in the pipework

suspect low fuel pressure to the injectors

Since replacing the battery everything works fine except the speedo, Rev counter, fuel and temp gauges. All fuses in fuse box seems ok. ?

Hi Go to the Dealer and have them check it out. It maybe a simple and pushing a reset button. Or it could be something more complicated. Also check for code scan faults.#. Good luck

I have a ford ikon 2001 model i live in south africa ,my rev counter stays at zero doesnt move anywhere clock dials and lights works fine just the rev counter bought the vehicle as is. any solutions please...

if everything is working and there is no engine lights on then it may just be the connection on the dash to the wiring or the rev counter has failed and just needs replacing, its usually the connections that go discoloured and loses connection and they just need a clean with some enrycloth. or switch cleaner.

Coolant sensor may be the problem. It is located near the thermostat housing. It may be sticking between modes & not operating properly. Also make sure coolant is circulating in system.

Radiator fan won't kick in

On my slightly older Saab the radiator fan is electric and only is engaged when the temperature meter reaches 3/4 to the top.

When the car is in motion it will not spin since the air flowing through the radiator from the speed is sufficient to maintain normal engine temp. Only when the car is still it for a few minutes it may start to spin especially during summer, it will sometimes continue to spin even after the engine is turned off. This is normal behavior for this car.

To conclude, if your engine temp only goes up to half the gauge there would be no need for the fan to start spinning. If it doesn't engage during the conditions I described above there would be a problem that needs to be fixed.
