I have a 1997 cougar 4.6 V-8. I had to replace the intake manifold, common problem I understand. It had a knocking sound that scared the **** out of me. Any how. there is a code that says I am running too rich on one side. I am sorry i do not have the code that came up. I have checked everything I can and I can not find the cause. Car still has lots of power but when code clears it seems to be way better along with fuel economy. Any thoughts would help big time. Oh and I'm replacing the front brakes tomorrow lol. I bought the care from a fellow who bought it at 72 yrs old and only 108 kms. he can no longer drive it and when the intake went he said it was time to sell. I have watched this car for 12 years.

Replace the heated oxygen sensors in the exhaust manifolds
they are the oxygen sensors that report exhaust composition to the ECM to alter the air/fuel mixture to the correct ratio for the engine settings

SOURCE: Heater hose connecter pulls out of intake manifold

Try cleaning the tube and manifold where they connect (use small wire brush or?). I would try using JB Weld @ the fitting before i would even consider a new intake. Water pressure in the cooling system shouldn't be much over 15-18 lbs. so doing this quick fix should solve the problem.

to be totally honest here i would need to drive it and see it when it plays up ,and i do feel that the advice given was good advice ,but to diagnose it correctly it would have to be running rough to diagnose it ,i suspect the previous owner knew something was amiss and getting worse so sold it it quick .The problem could be a wiring loom problem with the plastic insulation breaking up in the loom or a dodgy connection ,even a faulty ECU ,Ask a local mechanic to have a look for you ans see what he says

SOURCE: I bought a 1997 Mercury Cougar about 5 months ago.

By your description, I tend to agree with fuel pump issue. Could be something as simple as a connection on the pump -loose ground and/or power wire or an intermittent pump. At 83,00 that's far from being "over the hill" Also just a thought, converter(s) might be clogged and would give similar symptoms.

Hello, There is a fuel cutoff switch in the drivers side of the trunk. It is referred to as the Inertia sensor. It will detect an impact and disconnect the power to the fuelpump.

If you look at the drivers side of the carpeted trunk there will be a slot in the carpet or a hole. All you need to do is push on the switch button and the system will reset. If you have air ride the Inertia switch is next to it.

SOURCE: I had the fuel pump

there is a vent system on the top of the fuel tank, when they replace the fuel pump they have to unhook the system, so they either forgot to hook the system back up or they brook one of the vent lines or valves, we see this quite often the lines are some what fragle and have to be handled with care. but you need to return to the shop were they instaled the pump and have them do a smoke or pressure test on the vent system. it should be a farly quick repair...good luck

let me know if there is any thing else you need.

Smell antifrezze but cant find leak

I was having the same problem with my 97 Cougar. I kept lossing antifreeze from the coolant storage. It turned out that I had a crack in the intake manifold. After rereplacing the manifold, it stopped lossing the antifreeze. I don't know if this helps, best wishes.

Is the knock sensor located under the lower intake or the upper on a 1997 nissan pathfinder

Well, let me just say that you have to remove the intake manifold (the one with 6 metal pipes) to remove the knock sensor. It is not easy to remove the intake manifold on Nissans.

Understanding trouble codes for my vehicles

first the quest, this is common for nissan, replace the knock sensor, this sensor is located under the intake manifold rear of engine, some models you can sneak sensor out without removing the intake, this will take care of that car. now the camry, im guessing this is a 4 cylinder engine, replace the air fuel sensor (oxygen sensor) thats on the exhaust manifold. this will solve that problem. hope this helped.

My 1997 nissan pathfinder p0325 code came up on the scanner, and I need to change my knock censor on the car. I do not known were this part is located on the engine

very familiar with this. it is down under the intake manifolds in the valley of the engine. it is a single wire connector. you must remove the manifolds to replace this item. parts will run you about $100 and take about 3-6 hours depending on your compentance. parts needed are 1. knock sensor 2. intake(upper and lower plenum gasket)set 3. coolant. make sure you drain your radiator prior to doing this as to not allow a bunch of coolant to drain into the cylinders and cause hydrolocking. if this happens you must remove the spark plugs and rotate the engine to spray out the liquid out of the cylinders then reinstall.

How to replace a knock sensor on nissan pathfinder 1998

It's located deep in the valley! Under the "LOWER intake manifold". copy and paste this link in your browser, or try clicking on it. It may be helpful to you.

http://x.nissanhelp.com/forums/pathfinder/7890-3-3l-knock-sensor-relocation.html

I didn't find this link until after I had already disassembled my truck. This is the hardest job that I've taken on thus far, hope I can put it all back together properly. I changed the gaskets on the valve covers since I had everything off.
To answer your question: It's under your lower intake manifold, so it's a hard job!

Knock / Cam Sensor

The Knock Sensor is Located under the Intake Manifold.. It can be seen vias a flash light from the Driverside Looking down into the open area below the intake manifold approx 8in. Inside. If you are going to Remove/Replace the Knock Sensor You will have to Remove the Intake Manifold. Whick is not as hard as it may look. You will also have to replace the Gasket on the intake it self.

XJ8 Knock Sensor

Pretty Difficult you have to remove the complete intake and injector rail. You will need both side intake gaskets and the plenum gasket.
