01 Yukon Transmission Problem Come and Goes Without warning my transmission stopped working. I drove a few miles to the gas station without any problems. After filling up, I went to drive away and it would not move. Tried all R D 3 2 1 and engine revs freely. I pushed it to the side of the gas station, it wouldn't roll unless it was in neutral. I had turned it off, but I thought I would turn it back on and try one more time and listen for noises. And it worked, no problem, all gears! So I headed back home. I make it about 1/4 mile down the road and it seemed to go back in to neutral? Engine revs freely in all gears. So since turning it on and off worked before I tried it again, and it worked again! 1/4 mile... revs... turn on/off... works... repeat about 10 times and I make it home. 1. Why would turning it on and off make it work... even briefly?? 2. Should I have the transmission rebuilt or start somewhere else??

Take it to a reputable trans shop. These transmissions are controlled by a computer. If this is a 2500 or 3500 Yukon, I bet it is equipped with the 4L80E transmission. These have a tendency to allow transmission fluid into the large electrical connector, and it shorts out wires and can make things go crazy. There is a way to silicone the leak and fix it(videos on YouTube) or a good honest shop can do it without replacing parts.

SOURCE: While driving engine shuts off

I had the same issue with another GM and never got it resolved except by replacing the battery.
Finally put it one that keeps good voltage while park or running.
Wall mart sells a $20 alternator and battery checking device you plug into a power socket.
Its digital read out is better for my eyes than the dash board one and has idiot color codes red yellow and green,

Some batteries seem to get shorted cells and that lower voltage can lead to engine shutdown even while driving. You would think a good alternator would keep the engine running but these new low rpm designs with heavy load...

This is all experience and I do not claim to be a GM tech.

SOURCE: 1998 Yukon high idle sound with bad gas mileage.

What you have is the torque converter clutch,cycling on and off.
When it is off.your rpm will go up and your milage will go down
First-check to see if your brake switch, on the back of the brake peddle, is loose or misadjusted. When you apply the brakes,the first thing to happen, is that you unlock the converter,so your trans is not connected directly to the motor,or you would stall. Then below 42 MPH,your trans is working off the converter, as a pressure multiplier ,based on rpm
Second- switch okey. You remove trans pan and change TCC Solenoid.

Let me know if if you need more guidance

Testimonial: "Thank you for the quick response. Figured it to be something with the trans. Gives me a good place to start and a good reason to clean out the other stall in my garage to work on it. Thanks again!!"

SOURCE: My jimmy won't shift into high gear or reverse, it

Does it also hold first gear longer that it should and then shift right from 1st to 3rd? It sounds like you broke the sun shell in the transmission. The trans will need to replaced or rebuilt.

1995 gmc Yukon. Reverse will not engage. It just revs. All other gears work/drive fine.

No reverse on this model almost always means a cracked cage in the transmission.Good news is you just have to have the cage changed and not much else and all should be fine and won't cost too much.

My Ford F150 engine stopped running at low RPM.. I wonder if it's bad gas? Clogged Fuel filter?

The first thing to check is the Fuel pressure at the Fuel Injector Rail schrader valve. You can get an inexpensive test kit at Harbor Freight. The pressure should be between 28 and 45 psi with the engine running. If it is lower than that you can replace the filter. If that doesn't cure the pressure problem then the pump is next. 350z 2004 a/t with 120k miles 3 days ago my car overheated but reached just half of the temp gauge and i stopped the car and by the time it went back to normal i turned off the engine to cool down....

I don't think overheating of the engine has much to do with the transmission, either automatic or manual. If you have an automatic transmission, did you check the fluid? Sometimes low fluid stops certain gears from changing, as the torque converter doesn't have enough fluid to pressurize the servos to engage the clutches.

I recently had a leak in my 2002 Grand Am SE 3.4L transmission due to a spot which wore a hole in the hose. Fliud leaked out at gas station and I drove it a mile home. My dad fixed the line and we dropped...

The manual says there is no dipstick. The transmission is a sealed unit, filled for life. It's really a bad design to not have a dipstick, because transmissions will weep a little fluid at times and it's a good idea to check the level once in a while. The Manual says that if it leaks fluid you have to repair or replace the transmission. Not a valid repair when the car has 160,000 miles and it's a pint low. There's a plug on the passenger side at the bottom of the transmission to check the level (with the engine running, so it needs to be on a lift) and there's a yellow filler plug hidden under the air cleaner on top of the transmission.

If you put in 5 quarts, it is either too much or too little. Both cases will cause the fluid to foam, causing jerky shifting. Mine was too low at 185,000 miles and it was banging shifts when hot.

By the way, that transmission needs about 9.8 quarts after a pan drop and filter change, so your 5 quarts is way too little.

1996 Honda Accord automatic transmission lay-out?

Hello;
You will probably be ok for a while if you tow it, fix the leak, and change the fluid and filter. Honda makes a pretty tough transmission. Depending on how much destroyed clutch material is in the pan when you change fluid will detrimine how long it will last. Make sure yu use the correct fluid in it. Wish you the best. Hope this helps, and please rate me highly.
Thanks;
