Iv a VW bora thats hard start from cold. once the car has started the first time it starts fine until left for 6 are 7 hours. the problem only came into the car when the head gasket was done in it as the car was bought that way. iv had the car to a vw garage and they told me that it could be the speedometer that needs to be replace but they are 100% sure and its costly to replace. has anyone any idea what the problem might be

Most cars have a cold start injector i would have that checked out first before i do anything else maybe it was not hooked back up or it is gone bad
some times a car in need of a tuneup would also be hard to start when cold
good luck

Motor starts then dies several times when cold

Sounds like the cold start solenoid. It is designed to keep the engine running at a set RPM until it reaches a specific engine temp.

I have a 2001 Bora pd 115bhp engine code ajm... I recently done the head gasket in it and since it has been done the car is hard start from cold. the engine turns over for 10 or 15 seconds before it will...

Sounds like there was more damage present than just the head gasket. Perhaps a crack in the cylinder head. Was it pressure checked? Was the car overheated? The white smoke sounds like coolant leaking into one or more cylinders.

Vw bora tdi 115bhp hard to start in cold weather. I have power going to the heater plugs it is like the diesel is running back?

This may be caused by a retarded injector pump timing. You should have this checked. It's not something you can do at home it involves many precision tools. Thank you, Dana

When started from cold my tdi vw bora crunches into 2nd gear and slightly crunches again into 3rd gear after 10 to 15 mins when the car warms up it is totally fine what could cause this?????

try changing the oil, paying great attention to manufacturer's recommendations. Could be oil is way too thick and is sticking things that are supposed to slide, until it warms and thins.

Vw bora 2000 w reg wont start?? help please

Possibly air in the fuel lines. Possibly Fuel Injection Pump Case Relief Valve has come apart (funny looking ,10mm bolt with 2 round sides on left side of Injection Pump). Great site for TDIs - www.tdiclub.com - forum thread on this very problem. Great people will help get you going.

Trouble Starting

You need to check to see if the fuel pressure bleeds down, hook up a guage to the fuel rail port, turn key on for a moment then turn it off, the fuel pressure should not drop more than 5 PSI in 24 hours, if it does the fuel pump check valve is defective, this allows the fuel lines to drain down and causes long cranking to start. You will have to replace the pump to fix this problem.
