It sounds like you have a dead battery.
The trip odometer thing is simply your information center asking you if you want to reset your trip odometer. If you did not initiate this by pressing the information/reset button, then the low battery condition could have caused the information center to "default" to this part of the menu. (Computers tend to get delirious when they are suffering from malnutrition.)

As far as checking for anything else wrong with the car, the low battery raises the question of WHY was the battery dead? If something was obviously left on (like the headlamp switch or dome lamp) I wouldn't worry to much about it. However, if it was not obvious, I would recommend a thorough test of your starting and charging systems. It may be time for a new battery or it could be something like an alternator that has seen its better days. Simply jump-starting the vehicle or recharging the battery and driving away without knowing the cause of the dead battery is a real good way to get stranded.
