Hi!! I hope you'll be able to help me! I recently purchased this car. I love it!! the only problem I'm having is that about 2 weeks ago I took it in to a Audi service centre...to have the master cylinder replaced. When I got it back, the car's overall performance was MUCH better since I purchased it...it was as if the turbo kicked in at about 3500rpm...it felt soooooo good!! but after 2 weeks, it doesn't do that anymore.....what can the problem be?????
If you are shuddering, it's the MAF or bad spark.
If you have no boost, it can be many things.
-Vacuum Leak
-Bad MAF (ebay has them for us$90, just make sure you get the exact p/n)
-Bad wastegate controller (N75)
-Bad wastegate actuator (the actual wastegate valve, or the vacuum controlled plunger)
-Bad or stuck Blowoff/Diverter Valve
My TT just had the weirdest of "no boost problems". it would throw a code, saying the wastegate was stuck open, and i would have no boost. If I disconnect the battery and reconnect after 5 minutes, i would have full boost; and everything would work great for anywhere between 20 minutes-10 days!
It turned out to be a dirty Boost Pressure Sensor (aka Thrust sensor). It is a $130 part. I finally found the location of it on my 2001 TT Quattro (AMU), it's just below and in front of the battery between the driver's side intercooler and the intake manifold, connected to a hard black plastic intake pipe. It is held on with 2 silver-colored torx screws. It has a connector that gets plugged-in facing the passenger side of the car. Once you pull it off, you will see it has a funnel shaped tip. I took it off the car and poured isopropyl alcohol (99%) into the inlet hole on the funnel shape. I shook the alcohol around and then shook it out. I let it dry, put some silicone grease on the seal, and hooked it back up. The car has been working great so far. If it starts having problems again, i am just going to throw in the $130 new part, and hope for the best.
one more thing... the spark plugs on this vehicle (from the factory) are NGK Lasers. They are very pricey (i got mine for $14us each), because they have Iridium tips. Make sure your service/mechanic didn't put other plugs into the car. These things put out 14psi of boost, and the higher the compression, the harder it is to ignite the fuel. Spark is super important on these things, and the plugs will make a huge difference.
225 puts out 14lbs stock. 1.8t is around 7.5-9lbs

YOUR CAR'S AIRMASS METER IS BROKEN!!! JUST UNPLUG THIS FROM THE CAR'S COMPUTER....AND YOU'LL HAVE ALL THE POWER YOU NEED!!! ONLY BACKDRAW...IT'LL BE A LITTLE HEAVIER ON FUEL...that's it!
Ok guys...I think I have a solution for you...from my previous posting...you know that my car also shuddered when I put foot to the pedal...and then it's as if the turbo kicks in...but after a few days...no turbo or power anymore...took it in for a service and asked them to check it out for me....they phoned me later on...and walla!!!...I know what the problem is...no leaks in the airhose or airfilter or anything like that....the problem...THE AIRMASS METER has had it's days!!...kaput!....ok..so I asked the guy "how much??"....R5000.00 (US$ 500.00)...told him I don't have that kind of money...he said..no problem...we'll just unplug this meter from the computer...there's no risks to damaging you car or anything....you'll just have the power of the turbo the whole time....the only backdraw...the car will be a little heavier on fuel...that's all!!...After receiving my car back from them I COULDN'T BELIEVE THE POWER it was giving me!!!
Ok, and that explains the ESP button that's not litt-up anymore...and the ESP light that is litt on the Dashpod....I don't know why but the ESP control has got something to do with the Airmass meter...I'll phone them again and ask them to explain it to me again....
I hope this helps a few people out there that is experiencing the same problem....
Best of luck!!!
Hi
I just has my TT serviced and they replaced the plugs and air filter, I just don't get the turbo performance anymore. It aslo used to kick in around 3500 and push me back in my seat with a nice sqeal of the turbo...no nothing no boost just a crawl.
I think I will have to take it for tuning.

Hmmmm....ok, after a few day - NO REPLIES OR HELP from anybody!!!...sigh....Ok, so I did a bit of reading up on the www re my problem....so...last night I disconnected some of the air intake pipes to the turbo.....just loosened it up...and put it back...making sure the clamps are well "clamped" ;-)....and then I took out the airfilter....it WAS dirty and full of dust...cleaned it...put it back...disconnected the battery for 2 hours...and WALLA!!....back to normal again! Ok, I must add that the airfilter should be replaced soon...because it's finished now....there was a huge difference after I cleaned it.....
The turbo doesn't boost anymore....I'm taking it in on Wednesday.....will let you know what they say the problem is...they said it's probably an eletronic/electric fault.....
2001 Audi TT started having turbo lag issues the last couple months.......when I press firmly on the gas (to merge onto highway for example), the turbo hesitates and there's a lag, then kicks in after the hesitation. Had it checked out, and they said there was a leak in a hose to the turbo.....so they replaced the hose and it was fine for a few weeks. Now its happening again......gonna take it back in to see if hose(s) are clamped/secure.....hoping it fixes the problem for good, but if it happens again, it might be something else......
Feels like turbo not working
