95 F150 wont crank

I have a 95 F150, 4x4, 5.8L, extended cab, auto trans. I am having electrical problems with it and currently it does not crank but the solenoid clicks with key is turned to 'start'. I have tested starter, ignition module, ignition coil, neutral safety switch. I have replaced distributor, cap/rotor, solenoid, ignition switch, ignition cylinder. I am getting fuel. I wasn't getting spark but replaced the distributor and it started up. With the truck running, I disconnected the battery and put in a dead battery to charge. As soon as I hooked up the dead (low) battery (with engine running, key in 'run' position), the starter engaged and started cranking, trying to start the already running engine. I disconnected the battery and the starter stopped and the engine kept running, I reconnected the battery 3-4 times until the starter no longer engaged and left the battery in. I let the truck run for an hour and took it to car wash, gas station, etc and turned it off once with no issues. I later took it to lunch and when I came back out it was dead. I had lights etc on with the battery but heard nothing when turn key to 'start'. I put in new battery and even tried jumping it but still nothing, just lights on. I replaced solenoid and thats where I am at. Turn key to 'start' and solenoid clicks (1 time, not rapid). Will click everytime I turn key to start. Please help, I have no clue where to go from here.

Put key switch, turn key starter sound like engine is going to crank then stops and starts making a clicking sound.

  • Anonymous Mar 13, 2014

it isn't even clicking. How can I tell if its the starter or fuel line or distributor?

  • Anonymous Mar 16, 2014

RADIO, BLOWERS, LIGHTS,ETC. COME ON WHEN KEYS ARE NOT IN IGNITION AND NOBODY IS IN VEHICLE. RUNS BATTERY DEAD. BURNING SMELL.

  • Anonymous Mar 19, 2014

New starter is catching upon attempts to crank, then it continues to engage even after the vehicle has started, or the vehicle won't start and starter will continue to run until the battery is manually disconnected.

the starter has been tested and works, the battery is new, the lights and radio come on. it will start and run when popping the the clutch

( electric) sometimes when I turn the key to start. I have no or little juice. If I disconnect the positive wire on the battery post and then reconnect it, it starts up with plenty of cranking power. This may take a couple attempts. Also ,some times , a distant blinker sound occurs under the dash. Thanks Dan.

It will start by jump starting it form the battery to the starter

The starter should be replaced. The solenoid is kikcing the pinion out but there is no contact being made to turn the starter motor. I have the exact same truck and before i changed the starter used the old starter tap trick. Tap the starter casing with a hammer and it should start turning again. hope this was helpful for you. Good luck.

Tailgate latches wont function

I had a similar problem. Rust can be a pain in the ***! It might be best to hit the junkyards for a replacement ! Then spray the hell out of it with rust inhibitor. The one you have probably has bent control rods, broken springs and bent or cracked latches. I had the '95 F150 with extended cab...it rusted so badly it was dropping parts all over the road just before I dumped it last year.

Check for spark, check for fuel. If it has spark and fuel, check compression.

I also have a 95 Ford F150 4x4 5.0l, extended cab two piece drive shaft. E40d trany in fourth gear accelerating or not it will vibrate badly but only slightly in any other gears. The first thing I did was rebuild the trany, no luck same exact conditions. All clutchs and bands replaced, synthic fluid, new torque converter, and a shift kit from TCI. Still does the same thing.

Is it starting out in 2nd. too? If so you may have a blown fuse or you tore some wires off. If the trany loses it's electrics it will go into the limp home mode. It will only have 2nd. and reverse. GM vehicles do the same thing.
