I need to replace my instrument cluster on my 2000 Buick Century. I can do it myself, but I'm a little concerned about the odometer. Is the milage stored in the odometer itself or in the car's computer? If I put in a used instrument cluster, will the odometer reading display my car's milage, or the milage of the car it came out of? If it displays the milage of the car it came out of, how can I correct it without getting an error code?
My odometer reding quit working so I want to know if I can just replace the odometer board that also has the gauges on it with another one and keep my main board. There does not appear to be any computer chips on the display board so I am thinking that all the information is on the main board and when I plug the new display board it should read my cars milages. Has anyone tried thisMy odometer reding quit working so I want to know if I can just replace the odometer board that also has the gauges on it with another one and keep my main board. You would need to take it to the dealer or someother qualified repair shop that has the diagnostic tool to check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble codes in the instrument cluster .
DTC B0570 Season Odometer Malfunction
The instrument cluster receives a vehicle speed input from the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) over the Class 2 line. This signal is used in order to drive the speedometer and the odometer of the instrument cluster. The instrument cluster will compare the VSS data with a 16-point look-up table in order to determine needle deflection. A smooth filter is used in order to secure a continuous response. The season odometer displays the total accumulated kilometers (miles) of the vehicle. This value is permanently stored in the Electronically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM) of the instrument cluster. The trip odometer displays the accumulated kilometers (miles) to the tenths of a kilometer (mile) since the last reset. This value is stored in Keep Alive Memory (KAM) of the instrument cluster.
If it's in the cluster, see procedure below for removing cluster. If this isn't what you needed, please get back to me.

CAUTION
All models covered by this guide are be equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) system, which uses an air bag. Whenever working near any of the SIR components, such as the impact sensors, the air bag module, steering column and instrument panel, disable the SIR, as described in this section.
Disconnect the negative battery cable. Disarm the SIR system, as outlined in this section.
Remove the instrument panel cluster trim plate using the following procedure:
Remove the instrument panel access hole covers from the instrument panel using a small flat-bladed tool.
Remove the screws from each end of the instrument panel cluster trim plate.
Remove the screw(s) from the lower edge of the right side of the trim plate.
Open the instrument panel compartment (glove box) door.
Pull the right lower trim panel plate from the instrument panel.
Pull the steering column tilt lever and tilt the steering column to its lowest position.
Grasp the instrument panel cluster trim plate at the right edge and slowly pull, working to the left to release the retainer clips. Remove the instrument panel cluster trim plate from the vehicle.

Remove the push-pin retainers from the top of the cluster.
Rotate the instrument cluster rearward and disengage the locating pins on the bottom of the cluster from the instrument panel. Detach the electrical connectors and remove the instrument cluster from the vehicle.
Installation is the reverse of the removal process. Use care to make sure all installation clips are properly located. Do not over-tighten any screws or they could force their way through their holes and the panel will not be held properly. Squeaks and rattles may develop later.
Instrument cluster "controls" nothing. It gives you information from items that are being controlled and it gives you the results of what is going on...speedometer informs you of your speed...flashing light on the left informs you you have selected the turn signal arm to turn left.
the odometer display on this speedo is a LED, they burn out and must be replaced as a module, u will need to pull the instrument cluster out and send it in for repair, cost is around $250
The problem is blown resistors on the instrument panal circut board. the dash needs to be removed and instrument cluster. Resistors are on the circut board. between six and ten..
Sadly no, there is no fuse or bulb to replace. You either have to send the instrument cluster out for repair or replace it with a new unit from the dealer. You could also obtain a serviceable one from a salvage yard. Most shops should be able to replace the instrument cluster or advise who can repair it.
No. 2001 to 2003 are interchangeable. I am currently looking to replace mine on a 2002 and have consistently been told those years are the same. These babys are pricey, perhaps you can trade your 2004 for one that will work.
