2000 honda se changed the engine. purchased a used engine an automatic and installed it in the car with a stick shift. The engine has a miss and at 4000 rpm the engine stops running until you let up on the gas then it will go to 4000 rpm and stop again. what could be causing this problem?

check tranny linkage first, or shift cables.
and fluid levels.? good?, hot engine idle in park?
and fuses
and scan the PCM
but most times reverse failing is bad news.
aside from cable shifters failing.
the cables are 20 years old.
uses how many times, shifted now. gee huge.
and cables do fail for sure RUST there happens.

the service manual tells how to check the shifter
in PRNDL, to be sure it shifts into tranny selector detents properly. , even make sure Park works can car not be able to be pushed brakes off.

Possible causes of OBD code P0780
- Low transmission fluid level - Dirty transmission fluid - Faulty shifting solenoid valve - Shifting solenoid valve harness or connectors - Shifting solenoid valve circuit is open or shorted The Error code is generally activated on detection of the following conditions: The P0780 codes is detected when no rotation change occurs between input (turbine revolution sensor) and output (revolution sensor) and shifting time is long or when shifting ends immediately or when engine revs up unusually during shifting.So check out these points and see if any are all help keep me posted

Shift cable not installed properly. There is a safety which keeps the car from being started unless its in park. There should be a xable going from the shifter to the instrument cluster. Did you connect this?

You can buy an aftermarket sensor.Sometimes the sensor threads seize into the pipe or manifold,making it difficult to change.Many cars require a special socket to remove/install the sensor,so you may want to consider a repair shop for this one.

2000 Honda Passport v6 auto transmission..at time transmission did not down shift when stoping and it would stay on low grear. when going after stop it would be on low grear but pick up speed to go 45 mi. pmh but would not down shift when stoped. until maybe 3 miles and it would down shift at stop or when driving at slow speed?

Sorry to inform you that it sounds like your transmission needs servicing.
Check the fluid levels and replenish if level is down.
If after doing this,the car still wont shift properly or smoothly,,then you will have to take the car into a transmission mechanic.
