I replaced the turn signal switch on my 93 chevy s10 and when i went to put it all back together, i broke the horn contact ring putting on the steering wheel. When I reconnected the battery, the horn didn't quit honking til i removed the horn wire in the wheel and then it would honk when i turned my wheel to the left. had to unplug the horn and it still blew the fuse. replaced the broken ring and thought it'd be all good, but still have the same problem. What is the source of my short and how can i fix it? I'm confused and don't know what to do...

The little contact could have bent and is sitting on the ring, you may have to bend it so it only makes contact when you push on the horn pad. things should fit easily if the force it things can get bent out of their original shape and cause issues.

SOURCE: Broken Horn won't *******- 2003 Chevrolet Malibu

Hi. If your airbag has not deployed, you don't have to replace it. The airbag may have to be removed to get at the horn circuit. Try taking it to an independent auto repair place. I'll be willing to bet that they'll give you a better price for the repair. Good luck! ricardok45

Chances are you have a faulty clock spring in the steering wheel, you will most likely need to have it replaced.

SOURCE: 2000 Tahoe Horn broken

You can remove the horn relay and use a Ohm meter and check the resistance between the horn relay connector terminal No. 86 (Black Wire) and ground. If the ohms are less then 5 ohms replace the horn relay. There are a lot more tests but as Polarcycle states you can do what he suggested other then I believe you have two horns in this vehicle.

I have a 92 chevy s10 and my front passenger turn signal has went out and soon after my rear driver side turn signal and running light has went out. I have tried swapping the bulbs that work to the ones...

Click on the link.
This is for turn signals. Get at the turn signal switch. See the purple wire, L terminal on top of turn signal switch in diagram, that should go hot with key on, use jumper wire from that terminal to one of the wires on bottom of turn signal switch in diagram, those are, front/rear, left/right turn signals. If the turns signals work properly with the jumper, but, other wise don't, the problem should be the turn signal switch. If it still doesn't work properly, you would have to check wiring circuits.
Sometimes a faulty ground can cause weird problems. Sometimes the bulb doesn't make good contact in the bulb socket? Try putting a little pressure on the bulb in the bulb socket, see if it starts working?

I have a 63 Ford T-Bird that I can't get the horn to work. I have checked the wires and the grounds and they look good. The horns work when I tested them also but when I put the steering column together...

You missed something putting the column back together. IDK the design of the wheel, but if all the wires to the column are good, I'd look at the switch itself in the column. Probably not making contact.

My 1957 Chevy 3200 pickup has NO wiring for brake lights and turn signals, and I'm not quite sure how to get started to install. I did find a switch with two male posts (one a little larger than the other)...

If you go to faxonautoliterature.com you can get a copy of the original GM wiring manual for $8. This should be able to give you the help that you will need to get your wiring on track. Hope this helps.

I have a 87 blazer s10... the turnswitch /wiper/highbeam switch is broken and is shorting out my brakelights ..i cant seem to get to it.. took the steering weel off but ..?

Unfortunately there are some special tools required you will need to get to the turn-signal switch. Below is the procedure for replacing the turn-signal switch. Generally you can rent the puller from a local auto parts jobber or you can purchase one.
Good luck, let me know how it goes.
Regards,

Many vehicles use a turn signal switch that is separate from the multifunction switch. The steering wheel will have to be removed to gain access to the turn signal switch on these vehicles. The following procedure is a common method of turn signal switch replacement:
  • Place the fender covers on the fenders.
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  • Remove the steering column trim.
  • Remove the horn pad from the steering wheel.

  • Remove the steering wheel and horn collar.
  • Use a suitable puller to remove the steering wheel.
  • With a suitable compressor, compress the preload spring to the lock plate. Compress the spring only enough to remove the snap ring.

  • Use a pick and a small flat blade screwdriver to remove the snap ring.
  • Remove the lock plate, horn contact carrier, and spring.
  • Remove the bolts at the upper steering column support and the upper mounting bracket from the column.
  • Disconnect the turn signal wiring connector.
  • Wrap tape around the wire and connector.
  • Remove the hazard warning knob from the column.
  • Remove the switch retaining screws and remove the switch.

  • Replace the switch and reverse these procedures for reinstallation.

1992 chevy s10 no brake lights or turn signals

Check the front and rear (although probably the rear) turn signal bulb socket for corrosion and/or water intrusion. If you find corrosion attempt to clean (but you will probably have to replace the socket and bulb). For water intrusion you will probably have to replace the break lamp assembly.

Replace turn signal switch 1998 chevy lumina

You may look or feel the back side of the steering wheel, looking for 2 screws that hold the airbag to the wheel, these will be internal torq type screws (star) you may have to rotate the steering wheel 90 degrees to access the screws. You should first disable the airbag, by removing the airbag fuse, and or by disconnecting a yellow connector located near the base of the steering column. under the knee bolster.(panel below column). Once the retaining screws are removed, lift bag and disconnect the 2 connector to the airbag, the ground for the horn, and the horn contact wire, which requires you to push down and twist counter clockwise, damage to the horn contact ring will occur if you try and just pull connector from the ring. Now you can remove the steering wheel, may require a puller, and the you will have access to the turn signal switch.
