have it checked for oil leaks, if there is no oil leaks or small leaks that won`t justify the amount of oil your losing then you engine is burning the oil. it could be stuck oil rings. there is chemicals that you can add to the oil to see if they will free up and stop burning oil. just because you don`t see a lot of smoke out the tailpipe doesn`t mean its not burning oil. another thing to check is the PCV valve as if it isn`t working properly can cause oil burning as well.

If you smell burning oil, you may have a leak in the engine compartment reaching the exhaust manifold and burning on contact. The most common cause for that is leaking valve cover gaskets. If you are losing oil with NO signs of external leaks, the engine may be burning it internally. Valve stem oil seals, worn piston rings, blown/leaking head gasket are a few causes of that.

If you see no signs of burning oil ie blue smoke from exhaust, ticking from the engine, then most likely you have a valve cover gasket leak. The reason you wouldn't see the oil in the driveway is the oil is burning off on the exhaust manifold. Check around the valve cover gasket for seepage (usually around the bolts).

oil leaks are hard to identify by the blue smoke that you used to see. most of this smoke is burned up by the catalytic converter. at least until all of that oil plugs the converter up. you can tell if your burning oil by removing the spark plugs, and checking their appearance against diagnostic charts redily available on the internet. oil burning will leave a distinctive residue.

If there is blue smoke coming out the tail pipe it is burning oil. If there is not blue smoke then it's not burning it would be leaking. And have you checked the oil level? Are you adding oil? if it has smoke in the engine compartment then it could be a intake manifold seal but need more information to help you.

A temporary solution for removing oil smoke. (oil burning )
Use synthetic oil with 3 cans of STP oil treatment with oil level brought only to the add mark on the dip stick.

The synthetic oil will burn clear and the STP will reduce the oil burning to almost 0 for a day or two.

To reduce antifreeze burning.......put a rad cap on that cannot hold pressure and is vented to the overflow bottle......rip the rubber gasket on the cap in two...leave half there.
This will cause no pressure to build up in the cooling system and should reduce antifreeze burning greatly.

REMEMBER.....if you have filled the exhaust system with a burning product....antifreeze or oil.....it will take time to burn off and out of the exhaust system.

These are temporary solutions just to get you through the test.
You may need major engine work to correct a smoking engine for long term use.
