Determining what error codes mean

Each of the hundreds of automobile manufacturers worldwide has the option of designing their own codes for the computers in their cars & trucks.
They do so.
Then different model of vehicles have their own codes as well, which can change from year to year.
Car parts stores, and repair shops, have machines that can read these codes, and can tell you what they mean.
However, because of their design, there is much overlap.
That means a single code can have 2 or 3 or even 5 reasons for the code to show up.
God bless your understanding and your efforts.

Can a diagnostic connector on 1995 Toyota 4 runner be jumped over with jumper wire to get check engine codes?

There is probably a way to access codes by using a jumper and causing the engine checklight or an integral led to flash in groups. I can't say which pin or pins need jumping.

I suggest you ask the question of google and click on the youtube video.

Had code po404 so changed the sensor, now code po406 is showing up and car idles extremely high. What is causing this and how to I fix it?

Opp's

OBD Codes have nothing to do with changing parts

Codes are Parameters that are out of range

You check for codes & use them to diagnose the
system that set them & component test to find a problem

So--- Google your codes & read up

TYPE: OBD PO404
OBD PO406

Your going to need a shop to find the issue

Truck would not start had a obd code 340 changed cps started good for 2 wks then it showed a 340 code would not start.

When you get OBD Codes-- you do not change parts

You use the codes & trouble charts-- to component test--
the system-- that set the fault code,to find a problem

If you found no problem, or no tested & failed part, why
change it?

Without factory service & diagnostic manuals & professional
scan tool software & wiring diagrams, your at the mercy of
a repair shop, because you do not have the info or knowledge
needed, to work on a vehicle

Repalce egr and engine light still on

OBD II needed to reset and erase the codes. they will go out after a large number of uses. but for about $50 you can buy an OBD 2 for you car and plug it in under your dash usually and reads the code and tells you whats wrong and what sensors are showing up. also can erase the codes and turns out the engine light . PS if your going to inspect your car. Once you erase the codes you`ll need to drive your car for 80 to100 miles for the computer to reconfigure itselt for the engine performance. otherwise the inspection will read computer not ready na dyou`ll fail inspection.
