Ticking noice When I start my 2004 nissan maxima I hear a ticking noise comming from the engine but as it idle the noise stops after a few min. what could be the problem?

The ticking noise could be a faulty hydrulic valve lifter. When last was the oil & filter changed, it coul be that the oil is thick and not going through to the lifters and when it warms up the oil is thin. It could be that the engine is need of an overhaul as 148.000 miles is 238.182 Kilometers and that is a hi milage.

Change the oil and add an additive to it.

cHECK FOR LOOSE SPARK PLUG OR AN EXHAUST LEAK. IF THIS IS AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, POWERBRAKE IT WHILE SOMEONE LOOKS TO LOCATE.

Simply remove the valve covers and adjust the lifters with the proper feeler guage.A cheap repair manual like Haynes will show you how to do this

i have the same problem on a customers car
its only when it sits for like 30 mins
and its coming from the rear head i can't hear it right by the chain cover so it might be
1. too thin of oil
2.oil starvation
3. variable valve timing solenoid sticking and when oil pressure rises it works normal.
4. or chain slap but then id figure the tensioner is bad....
but it goes away so its not a potential.. cuz if it was the noise would be there regardless.
i haven't fixed the car yet im gonna look at it tonite.

Sounds like a stuck valve lifter. I'd use some oil additive for unsticking lifters.

this is normal roller rocker noise, it will not cause any concerns, (from a GM TSB)

maybe is the air compresor and that's the noise that you hearing. Put the air in off if the noise stop, your problem is the compresor.
