The power steerind resevoir is located behind the engine next to the firewall, about half way down. It is a tight squeeve to get to it. and you want the engine to be cool before you reach back there.

Locate the cap to the power steering fluid reservoir
easiest way to add - bc25493.jpg Remove cap and fill reservoir with GM Power Steering Fluid (P/N 89021184) or any fluid a knowledgeable parts department says is compatible. It may not look like much but there are a few dozen steering fluids available out there and lots of systems aren't compatible with many of them (wrong fluid will disintegrate seals, pumps, etc...)

the hyrdra boost supplies pressure to these systems, that is done throught the power steering pump, the line or the pump is defective, I would replace both.

Where do I add power stearing fluid

The power steering pump on a 1980 corvette is located directly under the alternator. I have found it easiest to reach between the alternator belt and unscrew the cap, then use a long stemmed funnel to fill it. If you shine a flashlight down into the spout, you'l avopid overfilling.

Power stearing on 2001 VW passat

Depends on how you define closed system, Just the spot to add the fluid is all that you should have open. It's the Green cap near the drivers front head light (it'll have a little steering wheel logo on the cap) It takes special VW CHF 11S fluid (most autozones, carquest etc.) should have it.
