First you need to make sure your ECM software is up to date. This is done at any Chrysler dealer under warranty. See if you have black smoke from your tailpipe. If you do than the filter has failed. If showing 90% and a lone highway drive does not reset the message on the overhead than you will have to most likely replace the pariculate filter which is one piece on your model.
The filter is most likely too saturated to allow a clean out. It is a normal condition to happen over time (the filter can only hold so much soot). Increased idle time also causes the filter to clog. Also since you have a cab chassis, if you have a fuel delivery problem (aka clogged fuel filter) it will show filter full on overhead display. Cost for particulate filter is exspensive, don't know an exactly; make sure you dont have any fuel delivery concerns. I would have your codes checked by any appropriate dealer or shop with scanner codes reader.
Also, keep in mind that the recalibration was done when replace it and its supposed to change the time when the regeneration is active as for the customer not to notice it as much, but if you were used to it before, now I believe your just paying more attention to it now, the small 30 mile trips are also contributing to this, the truck needs to be opened up every now and then to keep the particulate filter clean, here is what the recal was for.
Calibration Update Includes:
Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) regeneration will no longer initiate in Park or Neutral and in power-take-off (PTO) mode. When Drive to Clean Exhaust Filter is displayed on the instrument cluster PTO and/or stationary elevated idle control (SEIC) must be disengaged / inactive in order to properly clean the DPF. If this message is ignored, your vehicle is operating in a manner which continues to fill the DPF. As a result the DPF may become full of particles. If this occurs, the reduced engine power light will illuminate and engine power will be limited. Drive to Clean Exhaust Filter message will continue to be displayed until adequate drive cycle is completed. If the vehicle is operated in a manner to allow effective automatic cleaning the message center will display Cleaning Exhaust Filter indicating normal regeneration process.
Diagnostic and malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) operation improvements for DTCs P0128, P0196, P2002, P006B, P2563, P0108, P0234, P1260, U0073 and P2263 set during key on engine running (KOER) self test.
Enhancements to reduce vehicle surge and improve resume function during cruise control operation.
PTO Content:
Vehicle speed output signal used by vehicle upfitters will now read zero when vehicle is stopped.
PTO idle engagement RPM ramp rate revised.
Improvements to reduce P0544, P2031 and P242A set on long decelerations after cold start.
Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) disable function at idle is now determined by exhaust temperature and not idle time.
Revised pressure control valve (PCV) / volume control valve (VCV) learning tables for vehicles that exhibit DTCs P0087 and/or P2291 following replacement of the high pressure pump or major fuel system repairs. Reset the PCV / VCV learning tables and fuel injector parameters with IDS using the clear fuel injector parameters.
Enhancements for vehicles that exhibit white smoke during DPF regeneration at ambient temperatures below 55 °F (13 °C).
This calibration also includes the following Instrument Cluster (IC) message center display updates: Drive to clean exhaust filter, cleaning exhaust filter and exhaust filter drive complete.
Keep us updated.
