Took my 2006 Lexus RX400h in for routine 75000 mile service. It was driving fine, no problems. They tell me I have a coolant leak and need to replace my transmission for $9000 parts and labor. Here is what they say is wrong: "Need to replace transmission due to coolant leaking from between transmission cases. The gasket sealant is separating from transmission case. Parts cost for all parts needed-$7187.59 (includes transmission, any and all bolts or gaskets needed and transmission fluid) Labor to replace transmission-$1910.00" It sounds like they need to remove the transmission just to reach the problem area? I found a similar problem described online. Is this a manufacturing/engineering defect? Do I really need to get a new transmission?

Transmission going faulty and coolant leaking from its gaskets. This problem indicates towards faulty/ cracked inverter coolant reservoir .But i suggest first get the transmission inspected by the proper transmission shop.Transmission getting faulty, with vehicle driving fine , is bit rare.---------- The coolant leaking from inverter reservoir, is very much noticed in Lexus RX vehicles.------ ----------- The inverter is not repairable and is replaced as an entire unit.It is also costly part, approx $7000 including labor. But suddenly this problem showing up is rare.-------- You need to get it reinspected at any other proper shop, and get exact confirmation.---------- The inverter is the black rectangular thing with the rectangular warning sticker on it. The black plastic stealth bomber shaped thing on top of that is NOT part of the inverter. If you remove the engine cover on the driver's side of the engine, the inverter is the whole unit under that (with the plastic coolant reservoir on top) and it sits on top of the ******.----------- Getting both transmission and inverter reservoir inspected is advisable.------------ Thanks.Helpmech.

I have a 2006 GS 300 lexus that I can't get oil in it, it is not leaking where is it going? It has 130 K miles, Lexus says it need a engine. I bought it brand new and Lexus did all the services. Lexus...

There are no known issues with any LEXUS manufactured after '02 that would cause this issue by default. If you are burning oil, and its not leaking out, then one of two things is happening. 1. Its getting into your coolant system. (in this case, check your coolant system for a oil layer. TO FIX THIS you mill have to replace the block / i.e. get a new engine if you want it to last.) 2. Its getting into your valve chamber and burning with the fuel. (in this case, a gap has formed within the valve system letting in oil and can be identified by white smoke from the exhaust. TO FIX THIS you must replace head gasket and rings)

I couldn't find the ALTERNATOR in my car ,my car is LEXUS RX400h 2008

Does it still have a warranty on it? If so I would use that while you got it, and get it fixed free of charge. There is probably a cosmetic plastic cover hiding the alternator. However if you locate the belts than it will lead directly to the alternator.

Maintenance needed is always dependent on your car’s mileage and what service has been performed prior.
