SOURCE: 2002 Impala 3.8l v6 major hesitation

Have someone do a back pressure test on you catalytic converter. I had the same problem and it turned out that my converter was almost completely plugged. I was also getting a check engine light indicating a misfire on cylinder 4. Once the converter was replaced, the problems went away.

SOURCE: How to change a heater core in a 1999 Chevy Malibu?

Before starting this job I would get a repair manual. This is not a easy job, 6+ hours for an experienced tech with all of the right tools. And you may have to discharge and recharge the AC system.

SOURCE: lug pattern for 1999 Chevy Malibu

the lug pattern should be 5x100mm, you having the loaded malibu it could be the 5x125mm. if you still have the factory aluminum wheels on there then you can either take one off and look on the back of the wheel you will have to look closely it will tell you though, or you can go to www. tirerack.com there website will navigate you through and give you the proper size. hope this helps. sorry not more specific.

My 1999 Chevy Malibu runs hot? It started when it overheated. We changed the thermostat, then water pump, then temp sensor gauge and the temp gauge goes high but only when the heater stops blowing hot...

Air pockets will make the guage do that, and also cause your heat to come and go. Also, a poor radiator, as in rotting, or plugged up, will cause high temperature issues.

What's the sign of a bad cat converter on a 1999

If the cat is clogged, blocking exhaust flow, the car may start normally, and may run fine while the engine is cold. Within a few mins as engine warms it will start to bog down and die when you try to acellerate, even a little. May even die out if you give it gas, while it may idle just fine.
This has been my experice in 2 different cars of different types over the years.

2002 malibu runs hot.

Sounds like you have a faulty head gasket or maybe a cracked head. This can cause overheating and the check engine light to come on.The code for the o2 sensor is probably caused by coolant getting into the exhaust system and coating the sensor. The coolant fan may work but it cannot remove enough heat from the rad to make the engine cool off.Try some engine coolant stop leak to see if it will help. This maybe only a temperary fix.Let me know if you need more.MOE

Sounds like you didn't put the pushrods back in the proper locations. There are two different lengths in this engine and you may have one backwards
