I am getting ready to buy a 06 nissan xterra and the service engine light is on. what does the light mean and how serious of problem is it?

USA car???, , I try to buy it here and none found.
what engine is there. 2.4 or 3.3?? there were 6 engines then.!!!>???

The fuel sending unit is at fault. The ses light will come on as a resuilt.

It's has a timing belt, also it's an interference engine, if belt goes bad it will bent valve's .

buy a code reader or take it to a mechanic that has one.

The knock sensor is not a huge deal to replace and will not turn on the light. It should be dont though.

The crankshaft sensor is located directly between the engine and transmission. It is dead center at the bottom.
