89 Maxima clock and radio needs to be set

There is 2 different radios. With or without rds. Here are the instructions for both.
Setting the Time for Radios with Radio Data Systems (RDS) To set the hour, press the clock button. The clock symbol displays and the hour flashes. Turn the ADJ (adjust) knob to increase or to decrease the hours. To set the minutes, press the clock button again. The minutes. Turn the ADJ knob to increase or to decrease the minutes. The time can be set with the ignition on or off.
To synchronize the time with an FM station broadcasting Radio Data System (RDS) information, press and hold the clock button to enter the clock set mode, then press and hold the clock button for three seconds until UPDATED displays. If the time is not available from the station, NO UPDATE displays.
RDS time is broadcast once a minute. After tuning to an RDS broadcast station, it can take a few minutes for the time to update.

Nearly every auto stereo has a two power wires. One is switched on and off with the ignition so it will shut off automatically when leaving the car and a second that has power all the time. This second power wire is used to keep time on the clock and to maintain your chosen station memory presets.

If you have wired both power wires to the switched power source, the clock and station memories will be reset each time the car is shut off. You will need to identify the wire that the radio that needs to have powered constantly and connect it to an "always on" 12 volt source (such as the (+) post of the battery).

Additionally, a car battery that is failing can cause the same problem with station memories. Look for indicators such as hard starting or interior lights that dim significantly or go out nearly completely when cranking the engine. This is a visual indicator of an excessive amount of current the battery is trying to supply - often due to a low voltage on the battery. This can be a result of a poor connection at the battery itself, a cable between the battery, starter, fuse box, etc. or a dead cell in the battery. Have the battery checked and replace if needed.

Once your radio power wiring, battery & cable connections and battery health have been verified or corrected - the problem should go away.

There are normally two wires that provide power to the radio. One is hot only when the car's ignition is in the the RUN or ACCESSORY position. The other is connected to a constant hot voltage in order to preserve clock and station presets. Most likely you have connected the always hot wire to a switched power source. You need to rewire that wire to a constant hot power source to correct the issue.

setting stations on Fords are easy,put it on the station you want to program and push the channel button in and hold for about 2 seconds then it should flash,now the channel is set..now for the clock,with the key on and radio turned off,press the clock button,then press the seek or scan forward or reverse to adjust the time,then hit the clock button again to make sure it sets.

Does your radio stations also reset at start-up or sometimes do they reset? If you battery is weak and it takes a lot of power to start your vehicle it could reset your clock and sometimes clear your radio stations as well.

I had similar problem in 2001 rx300. Every morning the clock
will reset to 1:00. Sometime this will happen when I started the engine. The Lexus dealership replaced the car battery. According to the mechanic, The Rx300 are very current sensitive system and even though The existing battery was 3 years old the cold weather made the current go below the allowed limit. That makes the clock reset to 1:00. After replacing the Car battery, the problem when away

Try the following:

Note the radio anti-theft code & station settings;
BE SURE YOU KNOW HOW TO RESET THE ALARM;
Be willing to reset the clock;
clear the MIL code, then:
remove the negative battery cable for one minute during which time, to clear any capacitor stored elctricity, then re-attach the battery cable and reset the alarm, radio settings and clock.

If that does not solve the problem, replace the fuel injector control module.

Did you check the main fuse's in the engine bay ?
They live in a black plastic box , chunky looking things.
Let me know what you find.

No this is not a fuse issue,more ecu related,once battery is disconnected,ecu's tend to scramble in memory banks,causing lots of problems,try having ecu checked and reprogrammed.
