It went into limp mode and reset when you restarted it. Did it throw a code?

use a fault scanner to reset the CPU program If everything is good it should work . if not the fault codes will reappear and you will know what to fix.

Well, to begin with this is not a problem that is exclusive to the "Volvo Community". This type of problem that can occur with MOST modern cars that have computer-controlled powertrains.

"Limp Mode" is nothing more than a computer strategy that is designed to help prevent further damage to the vehicle in the event of a powertrain control system failure. The computer system can implement this strategy based on engine control, transmission control, antilock brake control, or traction control system malfunctions.

The only way to determine why this is occuring with your vehicle is to scan your computer network with the proper computer interface equipment (scan tool) and ask the onboard computer network why it has been implementing limp mode. It may still be a problem with your transmission, but then again, maybe not. It may be the result of an engine control problem. - Proper diagnosis required.

I have the same make and model. Overall a really nice car. I was driving down the freeway yesterday when the car jolted and I lost the gear lighting on my dash. The car drove in 'limp' mode the remainder of the way home. I started it up this morning and it ran fine for about 15 minutes then it went back to 'limp' mode and the dashboard gear indicatior lights went out again. Research indicates this is the Transmission control module which is located under the passanger side floorboard. In my case there is moisture in this area
