92 honda accord intermittent crank but no start/ tranny issues

1992 Honda Accord has intermittent crank but no start condition- accompanied by flashing drive light. Tested coil when this happens and there is no spark from the coil. Coil tests ok. Problem only happens when the car is hot and will usually resolve itself after car cools down. Sometimes the car will finally start, but the auto tranny will not have first or fourth gear- accompanied by flashing drive light. Already replaced coil just incase.

Thanks for your help!

I did some more research and found that i may have a bad main relay. so I removed the relay and re-soldered it. I guess from the factory they somtimes did not use enough solder so the contacts would seperate. since this repair no more problem. thank you all for your time

I know that early 90's Honda's had problems and in fact a recall on the distributor. Might want to replace the distributor. Inside of the distributor is a part called the igniter which is the ignition module and that is what normally goes out. I cannot remember if you have to replace the whole distributor to get the igniter or if you can just replace the igniter itself. Has been a few years since I have worked on one. hope this helps but if not please contact me. I'm not sure about the drive light flashing thing though, new one on me.

92 honda accord ex wagon wont start

If you are sure you are getting fuel, this could be a problem with the ignition coil or ignitor. Sometimes when they start to go you get an intermittent problem like this, These parts aren't too expensive and they shouldn't be too difficult for you to replace. You can also check if rotating the distributor to adjust the timing makes any difference.

REPLACE THE BATTERY AND CLEAN AND FULLY TIGHTEN THE TERMINALS AND SEE IF THAT GIVES YOU MORE CRANKING POWER.

D4 light flashing and car wont start 92 honda accord

You more than likely have a problem with the TCU (transmission control unit). It may also be other things. You need to seek professional help before spending money on a TCU that may or may not be the problem. It takes an expert to diagnose this problem.

92 accord check engine light d4 flashing

This is a typical Honda problem. unfourtunatly their design on the transmissions are not the best. Most of the times when you have a flashing light on the shifter on a honda it is the beginning of an internal transmission problem, not a major one but most likley one of the solonoids in it. just for future reference to you make sure to keep your trans fluid changed on the recommend mileage because they do have an internal filter that is extremley common for plugging up and giving a no shift condition. Hope this helps. swiftautorepairs.com

92 Honda Accord has intermittent stalling

Hi,

Hey, good job ordering the "main relay" honda have a BIG problem with this issue. That sounds like your right on target. Some other ideas to kick around if that doesn't work.

1. Clean the throttle flap

dirt get on flap restricting air flow causing stalling issues. (Clean with B12 cleaner in the white can and a rag. Don't use too much B12 cleaner. 10 seconds is more than enough. )

2. Check Idle Air Control Valve
check the Idle air control valve on the back of the intake manifold ( firewall side on engine) remove the two bolts and inspect the screen in the valve for dirt and carbon. You can replace it, but it just may need to be cleaned.

Good luck with the project and hope I'ved helped.
