The ECT sensor( engine coolant temperature/ cts) is not working.Get the coolant temperature sensor checked and replaced.------ The coolant temp sensor is located on the rear of the engine top of the intake. Look on the left rear engine where the intake manifold meets the cylinder head. you will see a 2 wire sensor. To confirm the problem try this:---- Disconnect coolant temp sensor with engine running and both fans should come on.If the fan comes on, then replace the coolant temperature sensor.----
--------- But if the fan is still not coming on with temperature sensor disconnected, then its problem with fan controlling relay or problem with cooling fan fuse.--------- --------- The fuse and relay located in the fuse box under hood in the engine compartment.------- Fuse number 39 is for cooling fan 2.Its a 30 amp fuse.-------- And fuse number 40 is for cooling fan 1.Its 40 amp fuse.---------- Relay number 59,61 and relay number 62 are for cooling fans. ----------- To see the exact diagram and wiring for cooling fan relay and fuse.Click the link below:--- http://howtobyme.blogspot.com/2011/09/cooling-fan-relay-and-fuse-diagram-for.html ----------- This wil help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Give direct 12 volt battery power to the fan terminals one by one and see if both fan runs with external 12 volt applied.-------
If the fan runs with direct 12 volt applied then fan is fine, but the problem is temperature sensor.-----
    Replace the temperature sensor.-------
Also try this.Remove the relay and by pass relay with hot wire and see if the fan comes on.If the fan comes on with relay bypassed, then relay has to be replaced, there should be 12 volts to the relay, if there is no voltage then relay is faulty.--------
But if all relays and fuses checked ok, And if fan is coming on with direct power applied to fan, then coolant temperature sensor has to be replaced.---------
    This will help.thanks.Helpmech.

SOURCE: cooling fan does not work

i have an 87 trans am with dual fans on the radiator and both of them would not work. the one on the right side had no power getting to it and the lefft one was activated by the a/c compressor. my a/c was low on freon so my a/c wouldn't kick in so a recharge took care of that.

SOURCE: Car overheating; cooling fan not working

This is most likely caused by a bad sensor in the radiator. I have never repaired this on a ford focus so I can't tell you where the sensor is located but if you find the sensor and then make a jumper wire and remove the wire from the sensor and jump the two wires together and turn the car ON (don't start the car) if the fan runs, the sensor is bad and must be replaced.

My 2012 Chevy Traverse is Overheating, but stops Overheating .

Make sure that it is full of coolant. Also make sure that the ac condenser and radiator fins are not blocked, Make sure that the cooling fans are working. If all are working then check the radiator using an inferred thermometer by checking each cooling tube to see that they are all cooling. .

Cooling fans dont operate when engine is on

faulty temperature sensor. It's near where the thermostat lives in the motor. In an emergency you can wire the + side of the fan to the accessory panel, just know that the fan will run the entire time the car is on.
