In ordinary conditions the engine replacement should not result in VSS error. TI could not find any bulletin about ECM (the car main computer) reprogramming after engine swap but the
VSS signal passes through two modules, the ABS and the ECM. If you have replaced the engine you may need to re-flash or re-program the ECM . There are a couple of forums where users complain about the same problem.The job can be done at the dealer place.
Before reprogramming the ECM do the regular troubleshooting for P0500. The problem could have been already there before the engine swap, the VSS or the VSS wiring may also have been damaged in engine replacement operations. Check the VSS mounted on transmission, Ohms are between 500 and 700, check also volt output on bridge. Check VSS wiring to ABS module and ECU and check the two-wire connector to VSS (check volts) . Check ECU connector. Check PNP switch.
