What is the part called on the front door of the 2003 4 Runner that keeps the door open. It is a lever located about in the middle of the door jamb and bolts to the door and the door post and has a pivot point closer to the door post. This is for the right front door and looks to be a flimsy part since ours simply broke in half. I have been trying to get a part name or part number for this item so we can replace it.

On most vehicles the hood release is usually located on the door side of one of the foot wells. They are often hidden under the lower edge of the dash as a long plastic pull lever or a smaller round pull button. It will have a small image of a car with the hood open on it. It could be on the drivers OR the passenger side so check both. Open the car door wide and look up under the dashboard deep in the foot well.
There are some older models of vehicles from the 1960's and 1970's that have the hood release lever on the front of the vehicle where you reach through the front grill to release it. If there is no lever inside the vehicle use a flashlight to look through the grille. if there is a release it will be somewhere near the middle, top edge of the grille.
Did you check the child safety locks in the door jamb?
If you open the door and look at the side where the door striker is (that's the latch that holds the door closed) there is a little lever that, if activated, prohibits the door from being opened from the inside, it's a child safety feature so your kid can't bail out of the car unless you open the door from the outside.
The door switches are usually located at the front of the door jamb where the hinges are located. Look for a pin-type button sticking out of the jamb. This is called a plunger switch. If you can locate the switch and disconnect the wiring harness, you can use a paper-clip to jumper the wires together to test for a bad switch. Usually a bad switch will cause the interior lights to stay illuminated until the timer tells them to turn off. If this is the case in your situation, you probably have a bad switch/
Check the latch assembly where the door closes. If the latch claw is closed it won't latch. Make sure the door is unlocked. Insert a screwdriver into the middle of the claw (circular opening where the striker latches). Open the door handle from inside or outside and pull sideways on the latch it should pop open. If it doesn't then the lock mechanism is in the lock position. Remove door panel follow lock rod to the latch and manually try to move the lever to the unlock position. If all fails you probably will need a new latch assembly.
usually on post where door closes, or in jamb by hinge area. Open door & try pushing any button/pin like object or may be a lever style too, with thumb or finger. When interior light goes out, you found it
There are levers or switches inside the door jambs which are more than likely sticking.........try moving the levers and if this works shoot some lubrication on them and move them around a bit.
