Have a 2000 Nissan Xterra that stalls intermittently. After it sits for a few minutes it will start back up only to stall again about 5 minutes later, sometimes a little longer. Changed the fuel filter and fuel pump but still stalls/shuts off as if getting no gas within 5 to 10 minutes. Any suggestions as to what the problem could be?

Does this only happen when it's idling? How about while driving? Does your A/C happen to be on? How long has this been going on?

As with most fuel injected vehicles. Most fuel pumps are in the tank, I am going by this generally acccepted design. The fuel is pumped into the fuel rail, by a fuel regulator valve, most of the time, kinda looks like a little space ship, some electrically controlled, some by vacuum. If you find it, trace the wire for a short, or vacuum hose, for a leak, blockage. Next if all that is in order, check the retyurn line from the fuel rail, back to the tank. Unused gas is recycled back to the tank. As only minimal fuel is returned back to the tank, sometimes the lines, steel, or plastic, are put in places, where thay can easily be crushed,(blocked) by jacking the car up. Did this issue begin to occur after the vehicle was on a lift??? Where did you place your jack, to get to the fuel pump??? Did anything collapse/crush at that time???

Sounds like TPS sensor. If you replaced the TPS sensor you have to put a relearn program on it again to calibrate the sensor. If you don't have a programmer or know someone you have to take it to a shop and have it done takes literally 5 min

2009 nissan versa stalls and stops after stop and go city driving or, 30 plus minute highway driving

Hi Kathleen, I'm glad to help!

Kathleen, I can tell you this because I work at a dealer myself and through the years when a problem comes in like yours and we can't find anything wrong its because whatever is causing the issue is not setting a code. There is only a few things that can cause a problem like yours and not set a code. (1) Fuel pumps can cause intermittent problem but will never set a code. After running for a while they will simply stop working but then after sitting a while will cool down and work fine again. (2) Exhaust issues. After the exhaust system has a lot of years and miles on it, the debris inside it can restrict the air flow and in some cases cause the vehicle to die and run poorly after a restart, but after sitting awhile the debris falls back down and the vehicle runs fine again until it happens again. NOTE: I'm not saying that either of these is your problem BUT, you have to start somewhere. Your only other option would be to let it die until the check engine light come on and then you'll know for sure it has set a code. After it sets a code then the dealer should be able to find your problem. The problem is that if its one of the issues I mentioned it will never set a code. Hope this helps and have an awesome day Kathleen.

2001 Nissan Xterra with start up problems.

If you are a 3.3 you are equipt with a timing belt,But you state this is periodically. So if the vehicle does this periodically and at other times are normal This rules out a skip timing belt. Two major player stick out that does this intermitently, Both are inside the distributor and one is not serviceable CKP/CMP .The 120 degree failure will stall you at take of. The 1 degree will backfire through the intake, both these failure or either one will stall you at load. The CKP/CMP is capable of doing this if they are oil contaminated. The ICM (ignition control module) this is inside the distributor when this goes out it can be while you are driving and all of a sudden it stutter and shakes the whole vehicle. then if it wants to it stop and everything is normal. And this does not set of a code. So if this is intermittent your solution is a whole distributor.

Van runs good then stalls out. then hard to start. If i let it sit for 5 minutes it starts again no problem. Then stalls again shortly there after.

This sounds like a failing camshaft position sensor and weak crank shaft sensor .When crank shaft sensor gets weak it will stop functioning. When crank shaft sensor stops working then ECM will not control fuel system and the fuel will stop flowing. And this can cause the problem. When crank shaft sensor gets heated it will stop working, but when the car shuts off, the sensor gets cold and works for few minutes and sensor again gets hot and it stalls. ---------- Get the crank shaft sensor tested on your Chevrolet venture. ---------- There are many other possibilities for this stalling problem, but crank shaft problem is indicating in your case. Hi Folks, My 99 crown vic has an intermittent stalling issue. I can be driving along and it just cuts out (usually, not always, when I take my foot off the gas). It will start right up at first and...

Was the fuel pump checked out?
Have a scope put on it,to check for a worn armature. May also be binding up mechanically
Also check TPS Sensor data or scope it

Take it to a reputable independent repair shop that isn't a chain...that employees Master L-1 Technicians. Chain stores can barely change oil, let alone diagnose complicated issues.

Stalling

Possibly faulty ignition module is the problem, stalls when engine is hot when you sit for a while it cools off and runs again until it heats up again, those are usually the symptoms of a bad ignition module and after a while it may give out all together and not run at all, usually if the module is at fault it shuts down the fuel pump so the engine don't load up with fuel, do to when engine continuously cranks over the injectors never stop squirting fuel and flood the engine do to lack of spark which is produced by the module, this could possibly be your problem.
